Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

Spencers now has their new batch of neon lamps. The first one I bought I returned before I even left the mall because it was cloudy, but the second one was only very slightly cloudy. The lamp does clear up when running fortunately and the flow is also very active. It may not be like the 90's lamps with lots of stretchy blobs, but I feel that with the amount of activity in these lamps it is forgivable. I plan on picking up a neon yellow and a blue/red tonight. I will post photos of them in the next few days.

Base and cap: 7/10
Glass            10/10
Clarity:            9/10
Flow:              8/10
Color:            10/10

Base and cap: I don't care for this style of base, so my rating is because of personal preferences.

Glass: Very few bubbles, no noticeable flaws.

Clarity: Very close to being crystal clear. I am actually not bothered by the slight cloudiness, but it is a flaw.

Flow: It is not American flow, but it is enjoyable to watch.

Color: I love the neon series colors.

I like that color! I think the date could also be August 1st, 2012.  I don't know why they don't just post the date in normal order - Month, Date, Year. LOL

The larger neons are a special just for Spencer's.

Hears my neon - we seam to only get the 16oz'ers in the UK, I would like to have a 52oz'er if they came over hear.

I think there is only the turquoise blue, yellow and watermelon / pink available hear

In either case I think we are seeing things go in the right direction. I was pretty bitter towards the company and a hardh critic of Haggarty but there are a lot of positive things going on. We are seeing that quality and creativity that I have been wanting to see. Lets hope I didn't jinx anything by saying it but I hope that there are more good things to come.

I definitely feel encouraged. Will be interesting to see what happens when they move production back to the US. That's supposed to happen this year.

Another lamp I am very happy with. Well worth the $27. If all Lava Lite lamps were like these neons everything would be great. If they can do this good in China, I am sure they can make them even better in the USA when the time comes.

Base and cap: Same as the green neon

Glass: Very few bubbles, no noticeable flaws, just like the green neon

Clarity: Crystal clear. Like my purple neon you can see the wax reflections off the back of the globe when running

Flow: It is not as good as the green neon, but it is close.

Color: The first lamp I ever bought was a knockoff clear/yellow tube and I remember watching it for hours. It was so clear and the wax was the same vivid yellow as the neon yellow.

Why do you think that all production will return to the US and that the quality will automatically be better once it does? I agree that it would be nice, but if they can make a lamp of a certain quality in the US, then they can make it in China. It's just a matter of making sure no shortcuts are being taken in production.

So far, all mine are still running great. Little bit of wax residue towards the bottom, but I have hopes that will get removed with a few more runs.

I bought all 3 52 oz. Neons yesterday. Yellow, Green and Purple. Albeit clear, I'm not sure that I care for the transparency of the goo. I'm hoping after running a few times the goo looks more solid. Just a personal preference.

It will look more solid. Mine are far less transparent now.

It is very complicated. Only globe production will be moved back to the USA. I know this because I talk to the CEO of Lava Lite often.Quality should improve because it is easier to manage the production, and the materials are of higher quality. Keeping quality high in China is costing them more than it would cost to make the lamps in the USA. There are only a few factories that make lava lamps in China right now, so it is not as if Lava Lite has a whole lot of options.

Good to know. :)

I will be picking up one of these Neons once they are filled in the U.S.  :D
