Joanne, I tried the figure 8 approach and it didn't work. So I straightened the coil again and gonna give it another try with the single coil. I'm out of extra coils so can't add one. Mine flowed perfect 3 times then never again, it's been about 2 weeks since the first 3 cycles and still nothing.
My wizard seems to flow a little better each time. It still takes a long time to heat up but that may be due to the design of all wizards and possibly carliles when new lava is applied.

To me, the ideal situation for Heritage lamps would have been that Lava Lite swallow or perhaps regain their pride and contract with Mathmos for their premium line. They know we would pay for Mathmos quality. Leave the china crap for Spencer's as an econo line. [sigh].
I agree, but that would never happen unfortunately.

I've been told by people at lava lite that they don't go for quality anymore, they literally told me they rather sell a bulk of low quality lamps to target, walmart, kmart and other stores than high quality lamps to collectors. It's truly unfortunate but the issue lies with the current philosophy of the company. We will never again see Lava lite like it was in the 90s..

They told me "The customer base we aim for nowadays are kids and parents buying them for their kids, who don't care or know about flow, as long as the thing moves."

When I heard that I knew there was no hope, they're just mass producing a low quality, shameful product, in china just to sell in bulk and disregard quality. They also told me "you collectors" look at lamps as individual lamps so we want every single one to work, flow and be perfect. "While we have to worry about them at a rate of a few thousand per line" Shows that they care less or not at all for quality, simply bulk to make money in numbers.

Just on a positive note I got my neon green grande in December and I have had no issues with the lamp. It's not giant quality flow but it's not bad. IF LL brings back the colossus in the fall I will be getting one hoping for a neon blue/clear but who knows what colors will be released IF any at all we will have to wait and see. We all should enjoy our lamps for what they are at the present time. It's unfortunate BUT I do agree that the 90s quality lamps are LONG gone and will never return.

I hope the colossi come back....I would really like to get at least 1 of them in my lifetime.  Buying from LL is probably going to be my only chance, since shipping is outrageous (I looked into it for those lamps from Canada...it would have been over $700 due to the packing requirements and insurance).

I agree on the positive note... Just sad to hear a blatant disregard for standards of quality. I only wish they would not be an obstacle to Mathmos since they clearly don't overlap in the market segment. Heck, since the heritage collection seems to only appeal to "us" I would think they could see the benefit of being the distributor of high-end Astros and cut out lights.com

Oh well... What do I know anyway

their heritage line is perfect except for variances in flow.  if they could get the wax issues fixed, they could sell the crud out of them.

The heritage grandes are definitely REALLY good lamps. Except for the accidental double coil and the stubborn break in some of the single-coiled have the grandes have been great. Im still trying to get my second v1 to flow, the first one got added a coil and now flows great, but this one just wont. Gonna try the simmering and see if that makes a difference, just leave it on overnight on low power? low but not too low to let it harden?

Mine never overheats on full blast though :/ just shoots endless peas with bubbles inside... Probably just gonna run it on full blast and wait for it to progress into something that flows.
The Grande does look great from what I see, despite the issues people have had... just wish I had a place to put one that wouldn't result in my demise!

yeah, that's what i did.  leave it on for 12 hours or so to the point where a column projects upward from the center, but there is no flow.  then run it full power.  i did this twice, and the after second time it flowed like a champ.
