maybe you mentioned this before, but how close is the bulb to the bottom of the globe in the one that won't flow?  mine is almost touching the bottom of the globe and it will show sings on overheating if left on full power for a long time.

Mine never overheats on full blast though :/ just shoots endless peas with bubbles inside... Probably just gonna run it on full blast and wait for it to progress into something that flows.

I actually had to wrap mine and make it over heat , other wise it was just peashooter . Now it takes awhile then goes column , then almost all at the top with a very low peashooter . and a peashooter dripping from the top too

Just noticed something on the site tonight....I don't remember it being there before...but I could be wrong.  Anyone notice the 4' Colossus lamp in the bottom right corner?  When moused over it says " not available online, contact us for details".  Was that always there since the site redesign?

Yep, it has been there for a long time (or at least several weeks). I never noticed it the first few times I visited he site, though, but I just didn't realize it was mouse-hoverable.

Just an update...

I ran my pink grande as much as I could, even though it NEVER ran right, and waited until the weather got warmer, just as a last desperate attempt.

Nada.

I have been trying to contact lavalite with no luck.

Even if I can ever get a resolution to this, it will be my very last purchase of a lavalite that wasn't made in the US.

I have spent hundreds, and gotten cloudy colossuses, ones that wouldn't run, and 2 heritage grandes that crapped out. :(

Sorry to hear it... that is so disappointing. If you want to drown your sorrows in quality, I just noticed today that on lights.com, you can pick up the blue/green Mathmos telstar for $70. For some reason that color is on sale! I can't think of a better way of consoling oneself than to buy a really nice Mathmos lamp! :-)

loren - i had the same problem with my grande.  i got in contact with LL and they replaced it.  have you tried calling them?

in the meantime, i have a theory on why the flow in your video occurs.  i haven't really tested it, but hear me out.  if your globe has 2 coil springs, make sure they are not touching, and that the smaller spring is in the middle of the larger spring.  i swirled the globe around hoping to fix the issue (shooting grape-sized globes), and one day it worked.  i noticed that when i did this, the springs were not touching each other.  nothing else changed except the way the springs were sitting, so i think it's partial evidence to suggest that if the springs touch, it causes the lamp to shoot grapes, like the lamp in your video above.

Heading my way soon

Finally bit the bullet

After over 2 months of trying to get in touch with them, I finally got a callback. They replied that they saw nothing wrong with the flow on that video I posted.

So you get a replacement, but I don't. That's just wonderful.

Hmm, well that suck!

In their defense, they did offer to send a new base. I knew that wasn't going to fix this globe, though. I've tried running it on 2 different non-heritage grande bases, and I've tried extending the socket on both of my heritage grande bases...just pink peas. :(

I knew a new base wasn't going to cut it, and basically let them know that.

So now they are apparently sending a new pink globe.

That was a very, very, long and drawn out ordeal, but I'm glad it's finally almost over.

After hearing the woeful tales of Rodrigo, Cowmation, Brad, and Jeff about their replacement grandes (although Jeff's seems to have gotten its act together...?), I'm not too confident that this replacement will keep flowing well. But the extra, unopened globe will at least make up for the fact that I'm about to have to open one of them, and sacrifice another 52oz globe in the process. :-/

Loren

If you open that defective globe don't immediately dump it, increase the fluid density with salt (I personally prefer Kosher salt dissolved in boiling water). I am almost willing to bet that doing so will rectify the problem.
