Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

32oz Gookit, final glowing touch, capped up!

Glow powder adds a nice UV property to the lamp and seems to add a slight pearled finish to the wax, allowing a subtle color shift under normal light.

Ahh okay.Well Im still trying to find the best way to get metallic wax. I recently bought a bottle of silver alcohol ink and added it to my work lava lamp. Its okay and doesn't fully take over the wax. It does get these cool silver swirls in the wax. BUt I'm looking for something better like what they use in those metallic wax lamps.

Hey Dr. What?!  I ended up getting the powder through Amazon but it was manufactured by Glow Inc. I shopped their site here, looking for powders that were NOT compatible with water based mediums, ended up with Ultra Blue in my globe. Swatches on their site show the discharged color of the powder at bottom, charged color up top.

The powder seems to settle a bit to the bottom, I think a better infusion into the wax before hand would prove better dispersion. I basically had my wax fully colored and running, added a small wax 'plug' that contained the powder concentrate into the full flowing lamp. I would probably fully mix the powder into the whole of the wax to go into the lamp and then add that blended wax to the globe next time.

The glow powder does saturate all of the wax but due to my method it has concentrated at the bottom. I am currently trying to blend it better each run by bringing it to full flow, removing the globe from the base and rhythmically turning the globe slowly to produce a wax funnel/stirring action. This seems to be blending the glow powder into the bulk of the wax on each run.

Hey Vox, what is this powered you added to the wax? How does it settle when cooled? and does it mix up well on start up?  I'm still searching for something similar to this but in a metallic form.

It does add a pop of color They are addictive, I may try to achieve a true color shift wax on the next one. Researching additives that will give the effect properly when contained in melted wax.

See, now you can see how addicting they can be!!!  Forgot to tell you that the disco ball off in the background is a great touch to the pic!!!

HAHA!

Thank you Carol! I like how it ended up too. It is the only one on tonight, you gotta love em! It is cool having them as personal creations. The bright glow at the bottom is the powder, it gathers intense light on the base but sadly the charged powder only slowly works its way into the wax a little. The floating goo has some help from a black light but does glow a very dim teal with lights off.
