Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

Looking to buy a lava lamp as a gift but I know nothing about them!

Hi everyone! My boyfriend mentions missing having a lava lamp every now and then, and I thought it would be a great gift for his birthday. However, since that idea I realized I know absolutely NOTHING about lava lamps or how to choose a good one that will last. I do know enough that generally cheaper items aren't the best quality, but sometimes there are exceptions to that rule. His favorite color is green, after that it would be blue. I couldn't find any lava lamps that were "green" per say, but I have seen ones that have blue liquid / yellow wax which seems to result in a blue and green effect.. If anyone could point me in the direction of an awesome lava lamp that will last him a long time I would really appreciate it. Thanks so much in advance!!!

Hi Aria!  Welcome to OG!

The lamp you want to look for is a Century lava lamp from about 1996, with yellow wax and blue fluid.  You will most likely have to search Ebay.  I have this combination and it's a great one.

See the link for a little more info

Hi, I agree with Keith, however, if time does not permit, Spencers gifts (if you have one near you) sells some really nice combinations of 52oz models (16.3"T, says it on the box).

I have two, the clear liquid with neon green lava and the orange liquid with white lava. I was surprised to how decent these 52oz models work. Much better than the 14" models that are also sold at spencers and walmart and other stores. I think I even saw blue liquid with red lava or the reverse, can't remember for sure.

They have other combo's in this size as well that are not on lavalamps website.

If you have a spencers near you, don't hesitate to at least stop by and take a look and see if something peaks your interest for your boyfriend.

If something does, you can always grab one for $29.99 until you can find a U.S. made model like Keith suggests.

Just my 2 from a noob as well.
