Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

Here's my custom dyed heritage grande. It has a second coil added, and is running from a ceramic reptile heater (100w). The result is that the wax appears almost to float in the air, without the fluid or glass being noticable. The heater produces no light, so external lighting is required.

YES! I am glad i was not in the room at the time.
It happened sometime overnight in the shop.}
It exploded with such intensity, it knocked items onto the floor and across the table

This looks really cool, floating with no illumination!

Ouch to Claude though, I bet that was rather startling when it popped!

Not exactly,

DO NOT  get that heater in too close proximity to the globe

That's brilliant !! Great idea for when they turn all the bulbs into LEDs

Yes, they are not cheap to buy, unless you are willing import and to wait a month for delivery
(and usually get a few that arrive damaged)

Thanks guys. I picked this silver grande base for the reason of a lower lamp socket. It's just this http://www.petguys.com/-097612311000.html?productid=-097612311000&a... swapped for the bulb. My local goodwill had a few brand new for 99 cents a few years ago. I only picked up one because I thought it was interesting, but I had no plans for it. Now I'm kicking myself for not buying more.

Interesting project! Did you just exchange the bulb with the ceramic heater, or did you modify anything else?
