Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

GooKit Question (I'm sure that have been asked..sorry)

Hey everyone, being a newbie here I am interested in learning more about these gookits they sell. I've been searching around on google about them and lots of things posted here show up but not everything I'm looking for. I seen they sell these kits for around $50 including shipping which is a little high but I love they way these lamps turn out and would be interested in redoing either a grande or at least a premier sized one.

Is this something that someone with no experience can do? I've drain smaller lamps before to add battery led lights and stuff to repurpose but the thought of making my own lamp sounds just too cool!

I feel like I should start out on a smaller lamp however just to make sure I can do thisand I do get that one kit can do up to a 250oz grande so at least I can do a few smaller lamps to try it out but it seems like a lot of money to burn just to "try it"

First off I don't understand how to recap, it seems like this would be hard to do and getting the cap off with a screwdriver sounds worse. It seems like you would need to get that cap on pretty good or the lamp would cloud up or leak or explode, how does this work??

second I would like to color the wax and dont get how to do it, by what I read after you clean the globe and add everything you run it then add the dye to the wax?

Do these lamps after you complete them last a long time? do they cloud up? Some lamps I see are wonderful and clear and others people have made are still cloudy looking to me, that would drive me nuts.

also if I wanted to make say purple wax how do you mix the colors? do you add blue then red or mix the dye, do you put the dye into the lamp? I read theres instructions online but when I click on the link it says its no longer there anymore so thats why I'm asking all of this. Do people still gookit their lamps anymore?

Sorry and Thanks!

Welcome!

A lot of what you're asking about is in the forums.
Everyone develops their own techniques that seem to work better for them than others.but generally, it's all the same.

Dr Watts post is here:

I like doing original creations

One of them is here:

Gooo website is here:

Dyes and starter kits are available

I have even experimented with candle wax dyes with mixed results

You can also go to my recent posts to see techniques.

Once you're competent to goo your own lamps, i find it more economical to place larger orders due to shipping and handle charges.

Feel free to PM me with any questions

Enjoy the gooyness

About recapping, normal size lamps are pretty easy to recap but Grandes can be a challenge.  I would suggest not doing a grande as your first redo just on that basis alone.

I have not used a gookit but maybe the best advice I have read is to melt all of the wax together then use whatever amount you need, because it yields more consistent results.

About half way through this post is a method for recapping bottle cap globes:
