Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

Hello,

I’ve bought a Lunar that’s all original - it domes but doesn’t exactly make an effort to flow; the seller said it was like that from when he bought it, new. He thinks the Lunar doesn’t flow like smaller lamps - I disagree!

It may be that a drop of detergent will fix the problem but the bottle is definitely sealed tight - so, I thought I’d ask whether there’s an easy way to open the bottle...

you should be able to open it.
Use Hot water or hair dryer on the cap

If that doesn't work go old school and tap it with a but end of a table knife to free it up.

Id see if it clears up before trying to save the old MF

It might just need to be changed

It was flowing better yesterday after just a couple of hours, so it may have been atmospheric pressure making it sluggish the previous day.

It’s clear in daylight but looks cloudy in use - and not very bright even with the dimmer on full, I’ll put a new bulb in before doing anything else!

I've redone a few lunars.

They are actually pretty easy

Thank you.

I think it’s the bulb; unless it’s undimmed, the wax settles right down and that defeats the point of havinghaving a dimmer.

Doesn’t it?!

could be.
Whats the wattage?
Are you using a voltage converter?

or are you in 220volt land?

It just might need a tweak of the MF

75w and I’m in France, so shouldn’t be any supply issues.

Sounds like the fluid needs tweaking or replacement

Yes, I usually add one lump (technical term!, it is in standard, moulded ‘lumps’) of sodium chloride to distilled water for an Astro and that’s about right then a drip’of détergent.

Ive been informed that later model required a 100 Wayy bulb.'

Try that wattage and see if it makes a difference

That could be it; I looked at the Mathmos site and the only bulbs offered for the Lunar are 100W

Received the 100w bulb today - was moving within an hour and now flowing nicely!
