Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

Has anyone noticed an annoying new feature on ebay regarding searching closed listings? ebay recently updated their app which removed some features and makes it harder to get to others but this is the main site from my computer. When searching closed listings and getting a list and then clicking on an item it takes you so some other random item - not the item you want to look at. Its been doing this for a couple of weeks now and I can't seem to find a work-around. I had been watching an auction for a lamp that also had buy it now but then the listing ended and I wanted to see the final sale price but when you click on the listing or put the item number in the search box it will show you the summary of the listing but if you click on the item the site redicts you so some other unrelated lamp on the site which is an active listing. Not even from the same seller and not helpful. Ebay also seems to now lump completed listing in with sold listings so it takes all the items together to sift through if you are trying to gain insight on closed sales prices if you want to list a similar item. Anyone else experiencing this?

This just seems to be the way eBay operates now. They've been breaking search / saved searches in a new and different way what seems like just about every week for the past several months. This issue in particular seems to be the latest in eBay's attempt to be like Amazon. It's new this week, AFAIK, and they'll probably fix it within a couple weeks. Most of these pages I've seen in the past couple days already at least had a working link to the listing I actually clicked on.

If you want to prod eBay, there is a feedback widget that should appear in the middle on the right page border if you scroll down slightly. (At least, I've seen one there every time I got one of these pages instead of the listing I clicked on.) Filling that out might help.

Clicking on the link in the highlighted area should work.

Ebays doing this because their losing a lot of bank to new cutting edge companies like Letgo which is now worth a billion or two from a year ago and rapidly gaining on ebay.  Ebays taking too much money from it's own sellers as is paypal or whoever else handles payment transactions for them and the cost to ship is no longer worth buying item so sellers and buyers looking for a much better deal are flocking to places like Letgo where you don't have to worry about shipping and 90% of items arriving from USPS trashed.  Rumor has it that Ebay has it's own employees writing negative reviews against  letgo to make the site  look bad but users like me who have used ebay religiously for years have literally halted purchasing on ebay and amazon for far better prices and items on Letgo BIG TIME!   Have you  noticed the shipping on ebay has almost tripled in price since 2010. Items on ebay cost less than the shipping which is not good for ebay at all.  What you are experiencing is ebays latest desperate attempt to make you search more in hopes that you will stumble on something you were not looking for but willing to consider buying now or later.  In all actuality - just wasting more of your time.  My spending on ebay has been cut to less than a third since I discovered Letgo.  I got sick of the bidding/waiting process and then paying high prices to ship only to have item arrive broken time and time again especially with USPS.  EBay's dated.  If I absolutely cannot find what I'm looking for I will try Google search first then head over to ebay.  Google search has proven to be a better website at finding what you're looking for and  cheaper than any search site I've used.  That is until I discovered Letgo.  And no - I do not work for the company.  I only endorse when I feel everyone should get a better deal or have more and or better options to buy and sell.

Thanks Elias, But clicking that link only takes you again to a thumbnail  - at least this time with a description - but no access to photos, # of bids etc., and when you try to see the actual listing by clicking see original listing it redirects again - to some other listing instead of the closed item I actually want to look at.

I have used Letgo and OfferUp and I understand OfferUp is about to launch payment and shipping so it's no longer a local cash sale. I had to delete Letgo a few weeks ago because I accidentally clicked a car amplifier that was listed next to an item I wanted to see and then every day I started getting pelted with notifications of new car amplifiers listed. These would often come in the middle of the night and when I contacted tech support they said I would have to turn off notifications. I pressed them why I was getting unsolicited  spam on an item I never was interested in nor asked to be notified about and they had no way to stop it. Now I just have OfferUp. I occasionally find lava lamps and honestly there are more of them listed each day on ebay than locally on OfferUp. I'm curious though what the reaction from sellers have been if you ask them to ship the lamp to you. Do you pay with PayPal?

I might be misunderstanding, what u are trying to do but if not: First click the link from the first pic then u get to This site and click "see original listing" and scroll down. If the listing is old the pictures might allready be deleted or scaled down.

Edit: Pic is now for ebay usa. There is a slight difference in the layout.

I've not had one spam email or call period point  blank from anyone related to letgo.  As a matter of fact I rarely get any spam ,calls or emails on my phones. How did you end up getting calls back if the site requires no personal information from you? Even when communicating with Seller your speaking to them through Letgo so again how did they call, text or so called spam you without any of your info?  Are you sure it was Letgo and not your Facebook account?  Perhaps it's your cell phone provider. Wait a minute - you mentioned OfferUp.  There's your bad boy.

Sometimes that link actually works, sometimes it doesn't. eBay these days can be pretty buggy.

Regarding LetGo, etc.: These sites are really competing with Craigslist. They're fine if you're looking for a fairly generic, used item, but they really don't offer anywhere near eBay's options for filtering.

My impression is that eBay is trying to compete more directly with Amazon's marketplace sellers. They seem to be forgetting some of what makes eBay actually better than Amazon for more esoteric things along the way, though. (e.g. Trying to redirect you to some sort of generic product page when what you really care about are the details on the specific item sold — something Amazon simply doesn't have under any circumstances.)

I don't really mind one way or another. Ultimately, if eBay tries to become Amazon, that may well be the opportunity someone like LetGo needs to come in and grab their market. Either way, buyers and sellers likely come out ahead in the long run.

On a completed auction, I couldn't get to the original auction either. I complained about this to them, but they only gave me 50 characters (characters not words) to do this. After my brief complaint, I resubmitted the complaint "Only 50 characters - What is wrong with you?". Not enough characters to ask them what the hell is wrong with them.

Last year they blocked out most of the text from our listings so that they would all look the same for mobile users and pc users. I hate that they dumbed down our listings like that. The text that was blocked helped describe the auction. I cancelled all but one of my auctions and didn't relist until they fixed their mistaken policy.

Every time Ebay comes up with a new way of doing things, it's always wrong. At Ebay, they got too many idea people with bad ideas. They got to fire some of them.

Well in yet another blow to buyers and sellers, ebay has now apparently removed the feature to get contact info on completed sales. I have an outstanding transaction I've paid hundreds of dollars and cannot get the seller to respond via the messaging system. Now when searching contact info you get this message:

...and you keep having to sign in now to see your watched items list over here in the UK

is it the same in the States now?

btw, "deprecate" in the Oxford English Dictionary means "to pray against", corporate-speak changing meanings again...

oh its been doing my head in, i first noticed my watch list layout had gotten larger and spread the listing longer, meaning have to scroll down the page further and items in the watch list stating finish time and then later aka finish 19 hours or say 21.30 ive missed it grrrrr

have noticed when ive clicked to see the finished item i dont get that item shows something different,  i thought it was down to me using windows XP  yes XP LOL  and chrome :-/
