Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

Hello everyone!  I am a new lava collector and am glad to have found this forum.  Ihave bought 10 lamps in the l;ast 6 weeks or so and my collection will continue to grow.  I am hooked!!  I am going to try a goo kit in the next few weeks and try to rehab a few cloudy and empty globes that I have.  I am nervous about  that though, because I can barely mix a good glass of ice tea!!

ANYWAY, I have this mystery lamp, pictured in this thread.  It was given to me when I worked for a top 40 radio station, beck in about 2007.  It was a promotional item for a band called Lava Baby.  The band existed for about 10 seconds (I believe in PA) and there is almost no information on them.

If I am not mistaken, the cap color is 63?  I can't find any info on that...

Can anyone help ID this lamp?  I believe it is a wizard base, but the globe is stumping me.

Thank you in advance.

Joe

Base is a wizard, bottle looks to be a 03. Wizard globes usually have a "W" in the code. The "Lava Baby" sticker, have no clue. The cap is mid lamp, since it is not screw on type. Seems to be something someone threw together.  Rest of the guys will chime in shortly.  Enjoy.

03 is a strange color code that does not match this globe of clear water and orange, or peach lava.

I know this globe was not tampered with, nor was it ever used or displayed.  It sat in a closet of a radio station for years untouched until I was told to toss it and brought it home.

Sure looks like an 03 to me, and possible date code of 96 or 98.

Looks to me like MaGoo is right on this one. What most likely happened is the blue liquid has faded to clear. With the lava, white wax does not often fair to well in lava lamps. It probably was ran for too long for most of the time before you obtained it giving it that yellowish-orange color.

Thanks for the replies!

The lava is really orange/peach in color and the liquid is very clear.  No hint of blue color at all.

It is pretty wild that this was once a blue liquid, white lava lamp.  Now it is a clear liquid, orange lava lamp.

Yep, 03 is definitely blue fluid/white(ish) wax.  With age the white wax discolors to a yellowish/brownish tone that with the yellow hue of filament light bulbs often gives it that orangy look when running.  If you were to color the fluid again the wax would look more white when running.  The orange look isn't bad, but sometimes instead of orange these faded/aged lamps the wax looks a displeasing brown.

It looks like the band just placed one of their logo stickers on a wizard base.  You might have the only one remaining ;)

agree that it's a faded 03 that likely lived a significant portion of its earlier days in the sunlight.
