Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

Picked this up at the car boot this morning for £1.50 (i’m not joking) - It had the remains of cold liquid wax inside and was covered in blue and white paint.
I will post again when I have refilled it and hopefully it will be running properly!

I'm almost certain it's a Hunter lamp too. The the liquid filling, finish of the metal, components used for the wiring and most importantly the patented ring to hold the bulb all point towards Hunter.

Same feelings here stevemo, FWIW the lamp's shape/design (if that's the right expression) doesn't feel at all like Crestworth to me, whereas Hunters (which I only know by photos) have a slightly different design feel to them

I have several Crestworth lamps, and can't fit this one in to any of their patterns...

But it's a really interesting find nonetheless, that makes four or five of these, I think?

Are we sure that these are Crestworth lamps?. Looking at the photographs, the rounded cap bakelite bulb holder, the bulb holder ring, and the riveted earth connection actually make me think of Hunter lamps - I have a couple of "ordinary" Hunters with these features. Also Dermot said that the original lava was a liquid - some 70's Hunter lamps had liquid wax, much longer after Crestworth had switched to the solid formulation. Still, great find wherever it was made!

Cool that another has popped up.  To me these are probably the ugliest thing that Crestworth/Mathmos has ever made, but still.....so cool!  Thanks for sharing the news and pictures.

That was a bargin :-) take some more pic's like the bottle top, inside the base etc, i refilled mine with mathmos Lunar contents, didnt use all the wax BUT run mine on a 60watt as not sure what the bulb should be, only problem is takes 4.5 hours for complete melt to blobs :-(
