Classic snaky Mathmos flow... love it emerging from "white smoke" at the base of the cylinder...

Only 150w - wow! Did it take long to flow?

Beautiful, I really love the wonderful flow. I've never seen a flow like it on any of our Crestworth or Mathmos lava lamps. Even lamps dating back to the mid 70's. But the largest lava lamp we've owned was Astro size, so I'm guessing the bigger lamps have that marvellous flow.

@andy_rossit takes about 3.5 hours from cold

@susan this one is filled with the juice of 14 Astro bottles. It’s the size and volume of wax that makes it behave differently

@ Coolsox, 150w bulb to heat fourteen astro bottles contents, wow, that warmup time and flow is amazing. It takes eight hours to get the wax to move in our Heritage astro, 11 before it flows property. Obviously that's too long to leave the lamp on, I'm hoping that a new Mathmos 35w halogen will give it the boost it needs. I'd love to own a beautiful lamp like your's its stunning and mesmeric

@Susan: 8-11 hours for a Heritage is definitely too long. What kind of bulb do you use and what watt?

Thanks Coolsox, that's pretty quick! My XXL Lunars take longer, also on 150w but much narrower heat contact zone, I suppose.

I'm guessing your bulbs might be the Par 38 floods? Too big for Lunars, but better bulbs...

Susan - re warm-up time, didn't I see a recent post where you said your bulb was sited too far away?

@ Christian and @ Andy Ross, re bulb in the Heritage lamp. My Husband just purchased the lamp for me, Mathmos 50th Anniversary lamp. It came with a 40W golfball bulb, like the old Astros used. So we've got some 35W bulbs on order from Mathmos to see if the modern bulb sorts the issue, sadly they are out of stock, so still waiting for them to arrive, we're hoping that it solves the problem.

Re the bulbs positioning, compared to our 90's astro, Crestworth astro lantern and Crestworth astro, the bulbs are now positioned much further away by design. The lamp in question seems to be in perfect condition, we're just hoping that it's a bulb issue. We had a similar problem with a white astrobaby we've just purchased, that came with a 30w old style reflector bulb used back in the 90's. Those were in stock, so received that bulb a few days ago now, it sorted out the problem, flows beautifully now.
