Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

I bought this from Marcel several years ago, and I've never been able to A) find another globe (glitter) or B) get this lamp to flow on US wiring, even using an adapter. I'm fairly sure I could get some glitter flowing - maybe not flowing very quickly, but I think I could get some motion out of it.

It has a 60watt reflector bulb, just like a regular US excalibur, and even though this one is weirdly short (the only one like it I've ever seen), it seems to be wired exactly like a full-height model.

But here's my question...

Is this just a simple matter of replacing the old cord with a new US cord, or am I going to have to replace the entire socket housing? It was originally wired for use in Germany.

My hubby restored the deco lamp from the 20's on the left in that picture for me, so I feel pretty sure he could help me rewire this lamp, but probably not if I have to replace anything but the cord.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

I'd replace the socket and make sure the bulb is 120V
220V will run at half temp on 120v
EU sockets are generally E14 while USA sockets are E17 or E12

Hey, thank you for the response! That could be why I'm only getting about half the heat required to make lava flow. :(

The good news is that what I thought was a weird socket housing in one piece was actually a socket at the bottom of another piece, which means that the socket can be replaced without having to find some kind of weird proprietary socket housing. That was my main concern. It looks like all I would have to do is replace the socket, and keep using the housing for the old bulb - unless the new bulb was substantially bigger, in which case I would have to step it down.

This was part of the reason why I was desperately trying to find a glitter globe for this lamp, because the base requirements to get it to work are less strict. If nothing else I might store the lava and fluid, and convert this globe to glitter myself. I really would rather not do that though...

Just change the socket and you will be ok
I have them on my website lavalabcreatons.com

Okay so... just replace the power cord and socket, and put a 60w, 120v reflector bulb in, correct?

Thank you again!

its that easy
