Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

Picture of a working Vallauris here:

I own a few of these, and have never had one with working goo.

Have changed a couple over with mathmos contents. However, thought I'd ask here to see if there might be a way of saving one? Perhaps it's a similar consistency to another lamp you've saved?

The globe is below, and it's relatively clear. However, the Vallauris goo basicall appears very thin (compared to mathmos), and when heated it starts to rise, but then just climbs up the side of the bottle a short distance. There are also lost of goo particles still clinging to the side of the bottle are sitting at the top as you can see from the picture below:

I've have a couple of Vallauris lamps. In my opinion, the goo is junk. I't's very thin and sticky. The liquid smells really toxic.

I've had no luck restoring one.

I think, as you say, it's better to simply switch out the contents.

I'd love to get my hands on some new Mathmos globes, but the shipping cost to Canada is prohibitive.

You folks in the UK are lucky to have local access to Mathmos products.

Thanks for the quick reply, and for confirming my suspicions.

I've sent a few lamps out to people in the US via ebay's shipping programme, so let me know if I can help out.

I grew up in Victoria BC....are you anywhere near?

Lived in Nanaimo from 1986 to 1993. I'm up in northern Alberta now.
