Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

So I have been busting my butt the last couple days trying to get this paint off this grande globe... And I finally finished and was setting up every to switch out the goo. I got the metal cap off and the plug is literally disintegrating... When I lightly lift it, it just rips. I don't even know how I'm going to get it off globe. What now!?

I've seen other ideas for caps but several said they can't fit the decorative cap on top afterward. With as much work as I have put into this lamp, I would really love for everything to come together!

Goo heads help me out please!

Update... I got the plug out... I barely lifted and it tore a piece off then the plug just sucked into the globe. Luckly I was able to grab it before it went all the way in.

The plug acted like it was collapsing from the pressure in the globe causing it to rip.

If you are gonna goo kit it, just leave it uncapped and occasionally add a little distilled water to compensate for evaporation.

Update on the update... I have the liquid and goo out and the bottom on the globe has burnt goo... Now I've collected many brushes to clean my globes but none will reach that far. Anyone have any ideas on brushes and plugs? Ha

You need to get one of that toilet wands that allow for a sponge attachement. I got mine at walmart and use my own sponge. Works perfectly but you need to tap the lever once the spong is secure so that when you go in and out of the bottle opening, the lock lever does not get banged and then your sponge falls in. You can search my posts, I know I made one about this at some point recently.

Okay thanks Bama! I left my 52oz goo kits uncapped for a couple months and never had a problem but I run a dehumidifier pretty frequently in my house and I'm just paranoid about leaving them uncapped too long. I know this isn't an emergency but I would like to find a solution.

Thanks Kero! That's genius! I really appreciate it. I'm turning a rainbow Grande into color changing lamp with a color changing kit and everything that could possibly go wrong has. Every tip helps!

Claude, no your post was not was I referring to. When I first joined and starting asking about grandes someone said they didn't cap theirs right and it let loose spraying lava to the ceiling. I am 100% sure of it.

Cool on the caps. Keith the one you link to, is that the exact size or do you have to select form the drop down about size??

Yes it's the exact size Kirk recommends,  XW2.12/2.29YW1.  He says you will have to trim the circumference a little.

Ah, awesome! I think I can manage that! Thanks Keith! I appreciate it!

The options are either 6 or 300 at a time. Haha that's pretty pricey at 19 bucks a piece

Haha I'm delusional at this point. I totally read that wrong. Everything that could go wrong with this project has. I was looking at it with pessimistic eyes. I appreciate your correction on that :)

No problem.  It's just too bad we have to spend extra to get these lamps the way we want them.
