Bye the way, i'm no expert on Rain Lamps but I think they are pretty cool objects. There have been discussions on here about them quite recently. Check out Coolsox's and Jonas Clark-Elliott's response to a query about Rain Lamps, cleaning them, adding oil etc. If you go to the forum and just do a search under 'Rain Lamp' this should bring up the recent discussions. They made very interesting reading. There was also alot about Fantasia products of 70's , mainly their interesting production of fibe optic lighting which are really collectable nowadays but unfortunately not widely available to us here in the UK.

'I have one of the original 70's rain lamps, It cost me around £60 if i remember correctly. Restoring one is very easy but requires a lot of patience. I removed the original strings, scrubbed and cleaned the entire lamp (these things ger VERY greasy and messy over time!) then re strung the lamp with heavy grade fishing line. The oil I bought from Boots chemist, they only sold it in small bottles and I could only buy one at a time (I needed 5!)'.
'Now it works almost like new, occasionaly the pump makes a vibrating noise but overall i'm very pleased with it. Th only drawback...the oil starts to smell after a while. I might try adding a drop or two of fragrance oil!'
