Hello! First post here but prior lurker.

I have an intertek lava lamp that’s got flaky water. It was fine a few years ago when I last ran it, but now that I’m running it regularly, that’s the problem I’m running into.

It also seems to be overheating much faster than my lava lites, so I’ll be hooking it up to a dimmer soon to see if it helps with that.

It also seems to be overheating much faster than my lava lites, so I’ll be hooking it up to a dimmer soon to see if it helps with that.

My first question is- has anyone here successfully opened this brand lamp up before? It seems to have a different style cap than other lamps, and I’m curious on how to go about opening and then resealing it.

Second question is- would I just filter the liquid through a coffee filter to remove the flakes? I’m trying to decide if it’s worth trying to fix this lamp as the bright orange lava in the clear liquid just looks so pleasing. I’m bummed out that not running it for a few years caused this to happen, but I guess it’s expected from a cheaper (?) lamp.

I have a goo kit and dye ordered, so worst case scenario I’ll just redo the whole lamp.

I will post pics if needed. Thanks for any insight!
Wave Machine Guy Trying to Restore Vinatge Lava Lamps. (Help!)tag:oozinggoo.ning.com,2019-09-23:1566398:Topic:6978932019-09-23T20:46:45.807ZHughesWaveMotionMachinesLLChttps://oozinggoo.ning.com/profile/phreaktor

Hi guys, it's been some time since I have visited the boards. I was recently contacted about restoring four vintage Lava Lamps for an older art installation. I don't have any experience working on them, but I do have a basic understanding of the chemistry. Can these lamps be restored to the original color and performance? The first photo is from 1986 and the rest are of the current state. What model are these? Can someone recommend a vendor for the replacement goo and perhaps a hands on…

Later I will post summary of a purple wax / clear liquid globe that I tuned up in an effort to contribute to all of the great information that I have been reading here. Really appreciate all of the past discussions - lots of great material!! Without this site there is no way that I could have started working on these lamps with any sense of true understanding so thanks again to all you long timers.
Replacement caps for 52oz LL bottlestag:oozinggoo.ning.com,2014-10-09:1566398:Topic:5519762014-10-09T02:01:24.527ZCowmatianhttps://oozinggoo.ning.com/profile/Cowmatian
Hi, everyone! I ordered some of the lava bottles from sciplus, and found these little jars with lids that I thought looked like Mathmos caps. They had the diameter listed as 2 inches as well, so I took a chance on them. They fit Mathmos and LL 52oz screw cap bottles! It isn't the prettiest fix for LL, but you can put a decorative cap over it. I'm just happy that I can now seal bottles with cracked caps!

I am sure many of you have had problems with loosing caps, breaking caps, or just getting a lamp without a cap. Well i believe I have come up with a solution.

As some of you may know there is a technology called 3d printing. You make a 3d model on the computer in a number of programs (auto-cad, inventor, ext.). Well there are online sites where anyone can upload models for people to purchase (purchase a copy printed out) their models. The site takes some money and the rest goes to the creator.

Knowing this if we were to have someone create a cap replica in a 3d model program and then put it online we could then buy replacement caps for lamps. I would think the first ones made would be non-screw caps because they would be much easier to make. So we could make 8, 12, 20, 32, 52, and grande size caps for our lamps.

The main problem I see is finding someone who can successfully make the models. I have little experience in auto-cad, but am decent with inventor. If someone on here is in a career that uses these could start and online shop for us to make some extra money. The main online 3d printing site is called ShapeWays and offers users to have a number of options for the material of what is being printed. It can be many colors of plastic and nylon, silver, gold, aluminum, sandstone, and maybe some more things.

This is just an idea so give me some feedback below. I just think this would be great for the site since i see people trying to buy caps frequently.
Need a plastic screw-on cap for my 1975 Centurytag:oozinggoo.ning.com,2014-01-13:1566398:Topic:5070082014-01-13T18:39:57.755ZRich Chttps://oozinggoo.ning.com/profile/RichCummings

I am trying to bring my Century back to life. I got it for my birthday when I was 14 and I've had it all these years. It has languished in a closet for probably 20 years now and I've decided to get it back into shape. It actually works as well as it did in the past (not perfectly, alas) but to begin to hopefully bring it back to life per some of the great information here, I first need to replace the screw-on plastic cap since mine is cracked.
I'll also be posting another thread to hopefully and successfully work through the other issues the lamp has.

I have been trying to get my '93 aristocrat's wax to completely stick to the coil by swirling the globe around, moving the coil with a magnet, and just cycling it. I don't think it's going to stick on its own, so I am going to clean the coil. I understand the process, however I am not sure if I should put the cap back on while the lamp is hot or cold. I searched on this sight and have found conflicting answers. How was the lamp originally capped, what have any of you done when re-sealing the…

Hello fellow Goo-ers. Does anyone have an extra silver-colored wizard cap that I can buy? This is the cone shaped top part that is 2" at the opening where it fits on the top of the globe. I am in Pennsylvania, and would appreciate anyone willing to sell one. Thanks!

Hi,

my quest to find enough Living Jewel bottle to make a Lunar is nearly finished.

Today I bought one bottle with a strange yellow rubber at the base of the T-cap.

The level in the bottle looks OK.

Do you know if Crestworth used to put this yellow rubber on some Living Jewel bottles, or somebody added it later?
