As a follow-up to my previous discussion, I though I'd record my results here for posterity/Google.

I was trying to match Mathmos' violet liquid, and was having trouble since most dye recommendations were only easily available in the US. I found some UK sources for food dyes, and while I didn't quite succeed, I'm happy with the results.

I was trying to match Mathmos' violet liquid, and was having trouble since most dye recommendations were only easily available in the US. I found some UK sources for food dyes, and while I didn't quite succeed, I'm happy with the results.

The two sources are Rainbow Dust (their Colour-Flo range is a solution; avoid their Paint It! range, it's a suspension) available from Amazon, and Squires Kitchen (their Professional Food Colours range), available direct.

Finally, here's how I found a rather nice purple. It's not as vibrant as Mathmos' violet, but it's as close as I could get without wasting more money on experimenting.

First, I tried Squires' Violet and Rainbow's Purple, but both of these tended towards maroon when diluted. Eventually, I settled on :

4 drops Rainbow Dust Colour-Flo Red

1 drop Squires Kitchen Wisteria

1 drop water

mix

1 drop of this mixture per 500ml Mathmos original liquid (mine had faded to completely clear).

This gave decent results that stayed purple when diluted. If I had more money to waste, I'd try a lighter red, or even pink, to pull the purple up into violet.

Hope this helps anyone looking to rejuvenate their UK lamp!
Fixing Frenchie, part deux - it's lava time!tag:oozinggoo.ning.com,2011-08-13:1566398:Topic:3154102011-08-13T01:45:10.775ZErinhttps://oozinggoo.ning.com/profile/erin9

I paid $115 for this about a year or so ago. Got it on eBay France. It came half empty and the fluid was all over the package. The glitter was getting eaten away by the fluid. So I took some of the fluid and topped off my other lamp and sent the rest to Autumn to top off hers. …

So, it sat in the basement for awhile.

A long while.

I saw a lamp on here that I believe used to have glitter (no wait, looks like lava) in it and the owner dumped and refilled it with a faded blue/white.

This one: http://oozinggoo.ning.com/photo/1566398:Photo:32345

So that's what I'm going to attempt to do. I have faded an #03 globe (blue/white) to clear...cream, it appears.

Right now I am soaking the globe with Jungle Jake de-greaser. This method worked well for my Capri restore. I'll keep updating this thread as I make progress!
Faded Lava lamp?tag:oozinggoo.ning.com,2010-03-15:1566398:Topic:1365512010-03-15T04:16:21.394ZAlex-Lavahttps://oozinggoo.ning.com/profile/AlexanderTaylorDennis
