I'm looking to buy a pyramid lava lamp, preferably clear yellow plastic but I would be interested in other colors as well. Picture is for the example. Let me know if you have one for sale and what you are looking to sell it for.

If anyone has a model number or the official model name that would also be helpful in case I can't find one here. Thank you!

So I recently got into lava lamps and decided to design my own after fixing up a Soviet one from Ukraine. My design is similar to it, however I tried to go more mid-century modern with the forms and stand. Definitely going for a space-age 'rocket' form. I think I was successful.

I ended up going with concrete as a material for the base and top, since I can just 3D print the molds from my computer and pour the concrete inside to cast the parts. It also seems to be a good insulator and barely feels warm to touch on the outside after hours of running. Once fully cured, I can demold the top and bottom, drill the holes for the support rods with a masonry bit, and install the socket and cord. I just trim the brass rod with a saw and use a tap/die kit to cut the threads for the nuts.

The stand parts are laser cut from six layers and glued, sanded, edges rounded with my router, stained, waxed, and glued to assembly.

If I ever attempt to sell any of these, I'll probably have to stick with a simple lamp wire/switch/molded plug kit instead of the fancy Rayon wrapped cable and vintage switch/plug due to UL listing.

The 750ml bottles are from amazon (mostly because I hate removing labels) and the recipe is just a no-frills paraffin/liquid paraffin/PERC + water/PG/SLS mixture.

This photo is much redder than reality-this lamp ended up being more of a yellow wax with purple fluid.

I'll publish the links and mold files on Thingiverse very soon for those who want to try making one. :)

I plan to test making a design with a glass architectural block from the 80's to see how well the wax flows. I know the world would love a square lava lamp if it could work.

Glad to meet everyone. I'll be around. :)

This week I tried various chemicals for the glitter lamp.

There is only one sugar left. It's okay, it moves very slowly. But safe, but not used as a glitter jam.

Hi, I've tried to refill my old yellow fluidium using a few recipes I've found on here, none have worked so far. It now looks like magma tower is down for the foreseeable future so I'm not sure how I should go about trying to fill it.

So, i have had Aeolus for a couple weeks now, and he has had water bubbles in his wax from the beginning (which was an issue i knew about before buying him). I have been trying to cycle him by using the following method:

1. Leave it on until it is in full-flow.

2. Turn off for about 5 minutes, or until all the wax has merged into a dome at the bottom, but isnt cooled off.

3. Turn on again and make sure the bubbles at the top of the dome are popping or merging.

3. Turn on again and make sure the bubbles at the top of the dome are popping or merging.

4. Turn off again when the bubbles look like they are about to form a separate glob from the main dome. (The goal is to keep the dome entirely intact, otherwise the water bubble glob will float to the top and will stop popping.)

5. Repeat steps 2-4 until most of the big bubbles have popped.

6. Let it run to full-flow again until the smaller bubbles have merged to form bigger bubbles again, and repeat whole process over. (Or turn the lamp off and wait til the next day, if it has been running for too long)

My main problem is, i dont know if this actually slowly causes the water bubbles to go away, by virtue of big ones popping and small ones merging, or if this doesnt really do anything and the bubbles just keep coming back because of some other issue. Aeolus is an old lamp, 2001 to be exact, and i know this is an issue that old lamps tend to have, but i just want to know if A. This method works, or B. If there is a better way to do it without having to pop the cap open..

I decided to make a glitter lamp this weekend. I did a research on the glitter lamp first on the internet. I did not come across much information. There are generally two practices (methods). 1. FREON, whose chemicals are now prohibited and not manufactured. 2. Saturated calcium chloride or calcium nitrate solution. Along with these two, not much mentioned glycerine + water, perchlorethylene + mineral oil.

First I tried to do it with calcium chloride. Really troublesome method (for me). If a small amount of calcium chloride got into the bottle, the bottle became blurry. It's really hard to adjust the intensity. Due to the polarity of the glitter and the aqueous calcium chloride solution used, the glitter stuck together. I don't have a lot of glitter on hand. Empty the bottle again, wash with pure water, waste of time and material.

What was I using? Polyester Glitter. At that time, I thought I had to solve this problem with organic chemicals. Because of the polarity.

I don't have the luxury of wasting chemicals. Both the environment and the money. But calcium chloride went to waste. The job is simple. Making the density of the giltter almost equal to the density of the liquid. Then, with a little heat, to start the movement by providing the small density change that will occur in the liquid in the bottle.

Materials I have: Glitter, PERC and silicone oil (100cs and 5000cs)

First, I weighed 40 grams of silicon oil (5000cs). I added the glitter. Glitter dipped in silicone oil. I added 40 grams of PERC. The glitters are at the bottom. I re-added 40 grams of PERC. The gliders are still at the bottom. Step by step I added another 40 grams of PERC. Glitteres tended to float slowly. I gradually added 20 grams of PERC and reached the density I wanted.

For the empty part of the bottle I weighed another 80 grams of silicone oil (100cs) and 280 grams of PERC. You will ask why I used 100cs silicone oil this time? To reduce the silicone oil viscosity. I once accidentally bought 5000cs of silicone oil. It just stood, I wanted it to be used.

If everything was okay, the glitter should move when I put the bottle in my palm.

http://oozinggoo.ning.com/video/custom-glitter-lamp

If this happens:

When I put the bottom of the bottle on a black surface, I can run it with solar energy.

I can operate it by using power led.

In short, I can operate with very little energy.

I have little glitter right now, I ordered it. When this week comes, I will add and share new pictures.
magma lite lampstag:oozinggoo.ning.com,2021-02-19:1566398:Topic:8262292021-02-19T19:25:18.926ZZane Ackleyhttps://oozinggoo.ning.com/profile/ZaneAckley
