Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

New BIG lava lamp from Mathmos. Yep even bigger than the IO.

Go tl their website and look at their youtube channel for 3 videos.

Looks a lot like the Crestworth princess. But not as classy. Looks like only 1 colour too. Yellow with Red wax. Movement looks sluggish, nothing like the princess.

Too big for me and probably expensive too.

What are your thoughts?

Videos have now disappeared.

Basically a chrome style princess, but with four metal legs instead of wood. The legs have graduated holes from small at the bottom to larger at the top. The rest is more or less identical to the princess but all in chrome.

Uses a specially made bottle but looks like standard formula. The video showed a yellow master fluid with a pink or red wax. Looks very interesting, but way to big for me. Ideal for someone with a lot of space. Looks very well made. I reckon about a thousand pounds plus?

I will let you know when the videos reappear.

Yeah, it's kinda ugly but yet kinda cool too.  I'm thinking "heck yes!".

Is this to be made available?  I couldn't find the video links by the way they must be kinda buried on the site.

The globe looks to be a bit smaller than an actual Crestworth Rocket (aka Princess).  A vintage Rocket holds right at six gallons of fluid this looks to be like three or four at most.

Interestingly I purchased one of Marcel's reproductions of the Rocket/Princess and have been working (slowly) on a custom Chrome variant myself.  I couldn't bear to make it look like an actual vintage lamp and do it up with copper.  Some of the things they've done here like the holes in the legs and lamp base I had planned for mine too, but my holes in the base were going to be round and not slotted.  The legs of this proposed Saturn lamp are kind of disproportionately long but it still works to me.

Let's hope the glass is relatively bubble free and the flow is nice and snaky!

I think this lamp would appear much nicer if the top was cone shaped like a Lunar and the legs were 50% shorter.

I am not a photoshop guru, but here is what it would look like with 50% shorter legs and a more tapered top.

That’s fun Autumn!  I know Milehigh will appreciate the effort!  I like it as designed better.  It’s just funky enough to be cool!

I hope this makes production and is available!

I find it very weird and kind of ugly in a way. Maybe it will grow on me. I didn't like the Neo at first either and after buying one and having it around it definitely grew on me and now I want a second one. I heard it is coming end of October. Hopefully the price isn't too ridiculous. I'm guessing around $1000-$1300 USD.

Autumn.  I think one would be an interesting complement to your Grande Rocket.

If the cone was a little taller and more pointy it would make the lamp more appealing to me as it would look more like a Lava Rocket/Missile :)

I think it has been designed to look as close to the princess as possible. But without the wooden legs. It's too big for me i couldn't possibly find anywhere for it to live. 10 out of 10 for effort tho.

I think they need to focus on replacing the fluidium, a bigger than astro but smaller than lunar io. Something more affordable to the masses.

I think they may struggle to sell lots of these. But looking forward to seeing these available.

Having a browse through the topics here, more often than not the LUNAR is mentioned over and over again.

We ask Mathmos time and time again to rerelease them, but no, we get the inferior IO instead. Why won't they listen to their public?

A few tweaks to the original design would be the perfect lamp IMO. A cast base and cap instead of spun metal to eliminate denting and a transfer over to linear halogen and Bob's your uncle Fanny's your auntie.

Please listen Mathmos surely we don't ask much do we?

If you want a sure fire seller, this is it!

Please Please?.....

Jezza - thought you said four legs?
