Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

Hi,

since the first Living Jewel lamp I got, I have the project to make one big Living Jewel bottle for my Lunar.

I don't know if it was done before, but there will be some difficulties to do one.

So if you can help me, thank you.

1-First I have to find at least 6 bottles (I've got 3 now, but I want to keep 2 of them, so only 1 available right now for my project, if you've got one to sell, let me know please)

2-How to open them? The cap is sealed with glue (what kind?).

Is it safe to heat the bottle with boiling water like I do for "normal" bottles?

3-Anyone has got any idea how to pour the liquid in the Lunar in a way to minimise vaporisation of the liquid? (wind is no good, so it may be better to do it inside, even it's toxic)

4- How to pefectly seal the bottle when it's full?

The seal must be solvent proof.

5- What bulb to use on the Lunar?

A normal Living Jewel bottle runs great on 15w bulb, and the max advised power to use is 25w (I saw one running with a 30w bulb)

In a big 4.5l Lunar bottle, what do you think will be the best bulb? (

Hot enough to run the lamp fast, but not too hot to avoid risks of breaking the lamp.

By the way, I think Arne said something about a Lunar Bottle who had blow away, anyone heard about this?

Again, if you can help in any way (advices, bottles) you're welcome.

I really want to make this Living Jewel Lunar.

Thank you.

I'm more afraid of a drop of water who could drop inside and cloud the liquid.

But I'm not there yet, still have to collect the parts first.

Well, the last bottle is on its way!

So if it arrives safe to me, I should be able to make this giant Living Jewel next week :-)

Tonight I have prepared the bottle.

I removed the whisky stickers, and clean the inside.

I used some vinegar, and agressive products (cillit bang).

But there is still some marks inside (like hard water marks).

Nothing major, but not perfect.

Any tips for that?

Tips also welcome for removing the T caps from the Living Jewel bottles.

There a lot of more glue than other bottles, so the boiling water trick won't work on this (and I don't want to heat the bottle).

I was thinking to melt the glue with a solder iron.

If you've got a better idea, let me know.

Thanks.

You might try making a paste of white vinegar and baking soda and speading it on the hard water marks.  You'll have to have a cloth over a stick or something that will go down inside the bottle. Let it sit a few minutes and then use the stick and cloth and rub it till the marks are gone.  Then rinse it out again.   Good Luck!    Libby

Thanks, I totally forgot I have a long aluminium tube (with some soft paper taped on it) I used for this on another Lunar bottle .

I just find it, and the last marks are gone :-)

Bottle is ready.

Next stage... to find the best way to remove the T-caps from the LJ bottles.

You're very welcome.  But I have no idea how to take a regular cap off, let alone one from a LJ bottle!  :-)

I'm just into hard water marks.

It was long, it was difficult, it was expensive, it was risky, but...

she's crazy beautifull!

YEEEEEHAAAA :-)

I'm still watching the temperature right now, and checking if there is some fumes leaks.

Everything's good for the moment.

I'm having a hard time waiting for pics.  LOL   This has been a long process for you too, but sounds like it was well worth the wait!
