I own 16 lava lamps, 15 of them made by mathmos, the last one a standard one in pink/white combination, just bought a lunar with a dent on cap to be fixed,, now looking for a vase. Even if I live in a small flat, a Galaxy should be the sherry on top! hi hi hi
Apart from this, I usually work in I.T but trying to establish my own company and if not successfull going back to music, making Drum n' Bass or electroacoustic. I designed some watches too (which never hit the shelves) with one I'd love to find the way to make it work.
If I wasn't soooo lazy, I'd have a SF scenario written by now. My favorites writers in SF are William Gibson, P.K Dick, robert Sheckley,
Where I Live:
I live in pAris (France)
My First Lava Lamp was:
I bought a purple/red telstar one year ago and shazaammm, I got addicted! Damned.
AS I try color combinations, liquid is often an issue so I emailed Mathmos on this and guess what... I was (nicely and kindly) turned down... Too bad
hi!
yeah, i will let you know if i see any. the galaxy normally goes for about £80+ i was lucky and got mine for £17, total fluke really.
the only other lunar vases i'm after are a glitter and possibly an orange, apart from that they are all yours!
if i ever get very poor i may have to sell one or two of mine, but i'd have to be living in a box before i would consider that!
:)
I like your collection of Mathmos lamps. I managed to get two more Mathmos lamps today (Astro and yellow Jet) so am very happy. I hope you are well. I would love to visit Paris soon.
I can see you own some very collectables one, you lucky! ..smile....
About the pAris trip, when you'll manage to do it, don't mind telling me to make a fine occasion to meet.
The wooden cube with the wrapped kraft paper on it is a project to make an animated (or more precisely puzzled) Lament box.
For the novice, it's the box in the Hellraiser movies that opens on weird worlds. The kraft paper holds the brass panels to be glued on the cube faces (But I have to manage HOW to make a puzzle that'll allow to disclose a small cavity in the cube)
I know.... I have some tendency to procrastinate.. that's life! ;.)
hello
The 'waving' that people describe is very very slight.
Only a few fibres will sway now and again, or at least thats how mine is.
as long as the lamp isn't getting too hot, ie the fan is cooling the lamp, i wouldn't worry about it.
like I said, the waving is not hardly noticable at all.
Are you gonna post some pics? that would be good as my lamp appears to have longer fibres in it than any other galaxy I have seen, they almost touch the perspex at the top, whereas all the pics i've seen seem to show a much smaller cluster inside, so i'd be interested to see yours.
Enjoy! its a really great lamp.
:)
yes, i see the same thinbg, its normal, just the housing for the fibres.
mine has lots of fibres, very evenly spread, and is a perfect dome shape inside, i am curious about this, as you mentioned re-fills, maybe mine is one!
i cant have mine on all the time cos my bloke (sammy-t) says the noise irritates him! :)
oh no!
what a shame but hopefully you'll fix it with no probs.
I was lucky cos the seller lives about 10 miles from me so I collected it.
good luck!
:)
