Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

FINALLY got my 74 clear/red century working!

And it even spikes! I have never, ever seen this lamp run so well, nor seen it this clear for more than 1 run. I've tried to restore this lamp 4 times. The first few times never worked at all. When I finally got it to flow again, it didn't spike at all, got full of bubbles, and the water got cloudy again after only 3-4 runs, THIS time I used fog fluid from the party store (not the stuff from Walmart) with a little added pure glycerine, and a tiny drop of clear dish soap. For so long now, I have wanted this lamp to run right. I have NEVER seen it look so good! I'm stoked!

When I got this century, it was very cloudy. I could barely see it spike or flow at all. I tried filtering the liquid, but it was still cloudy. I got my 67 century going again with just salt water and surf, but that didn't work for this lamp. I tried twice. What finally worked was the pure fog fluid. I didn't have quite enough, so I used a little distilled water and pure glycerin to top it off. I actually think I could have gotten away with just using the extra water though, as the liquid is a little thick (slow). When it heats up all the way, it's gorgeous though...it flows just as beautifully as it ever did, only now I can actually SEE it. :p

Oh, and yes, the liquid is nice and topped off. :) I hate a low-liquid lamp! It just annoys me...

How high is the fluid? It looks like it is almost up to the cap.

Im gonna give mine a try with this method today. What problems did yours have that led you to have to restore the liquid?

It is a tiny bit hazy, but I think that's residue on the inside of the glass. That was actually there in the above picture also, but you can't see it. I'm thinking about trying to find those long, cotton craft swabs to wipe the inside of the glass, to see if that will remove it.

The flow is great still, though! In fact the wax plug gets a little smoother and flatter when it's cold, every time I run the lamp. :) I had ripped this lava up with too much surf at one point, and it got chunky and full of water bubbles as a result.

Hey Loren, Im also intrigued to know if its still flowing, and clear. Ive got a clear purple century that the doesnt flow much, just shoots peas but the wax is nice and smooth. Gonna give this method a try but ive got some SLSA powder as surfactant, maybe that wont cloud up.

Man, that lamp looks like candy , beautiful!  I see it has been a few months since this pic, does it still run and look this good?

Hey Loren, I just picked up a cloudy 1974 Century. I plan on cycling it, but if that doesn't work out, I could either goo kit it or follow your method. I am definitely intrigued by your method, though... so where did you get your glycerin? I didn't see any at Walgreen's unfortunately. How many bottles of that fog juice did you buy? It looks like a 1 quart bottle... finally... the big question is... is it still clear and does it still flow??
