clearview model lava lamps - how they are different?

The clearview line of lava lamps that let you see more visible area of the bottle:

#1 Is the bottle different from any other normal bottle of the same size?

#2 The base appears to be different with a light switch on the base? is there anything specifically different about these bases that would lead them to no last as long as a normal base?

Reason for asking is: Don't you think this style lamp would make for a great glitter conversion as more area is visible?

Thoughts?

Absolutely blown away, this is exactly what I am trying to accomplish as after I made the one for my friend I said I need to make one for me but different.

So I guess its safe to assume they are just normal bottles, nothing special.

The base, I assume other than the bulb being different (researched it) it's just a base but with the switch not on the cord.

I have to make myself something like this, however, my budget probably does not allow for a kirk creation at the moment, maybe just go with the five below bottle contents.

I just need a dang clear view base and the right empty bottle size. I guess I'll see what happens with my F/T thread and if not, post up a WANTED thread.

I wonder if the clear view style has a big following as I can see a certain allure to them.

I've got one but it's not a favorite.  The light from the bulb shines through the bottom of the plastic part of the base and tends to be too bright.

The base design is a little different, a bit more slender.  I do like the shape though.  I like the power switch on the base too, it's easier to access.

I think they came in two sizes but can't remember for sure.  I know they came in 32 oz bottle size but maybe in 20 oz size also.

Keith, thanks for the info, yes they came in both sizes as you mention. If a person converts this type of unit to a glitter lamp or just uses a bottle with glitter the bulb can be changed to either a little stronger or weaker to suit one needs.

If one adds a dimmer before the plug, my friend says they sell them that you plug the lamp in the dimmer then dimmer into the wall, you can use whatever bulb you want and dim to ones preference.

I plan on making a glitter lamp with this base in the near future :)

By the way, the only place that I see sells them anymore is spencers, 17" model, and locally a store checked and only 16 units left in the warehouse in the U.S., I would think after that, they are gone.

I call my clearview Cloudyview instead. Not a great lamp but I think more suited for glitter.

Module, I hear ya, that is why when I first saw the base style, I said glitter all the way.

I picked one up with a discount from spencers for $20 for the 32oz version with white base, white cape and rainbow globe. Not the greatest paint job on the globe though lol

I am currently running it simply as a lava lamp to see how the lamp performs after about 5 days of break in.

I plan to get an empty 32oz globe to create a nice glitter lamp with the base. I can also put my 32oz code 04 bottle on this base as well :)
