Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

Someone told me "regular" light bulbs are not going to be manufactured much longer.  Going to the new energy saving types only being made.

Will this affect bulbs we need for our lamps?

There's been some uncertainty on this. I know they are phasing out 100W and 200W bulbs, but I had no issue finding them at my local Home Depot last year.

I also did a write-up on this awhile back. I'm a little confused about what is and is not being phased out. I've stocked up to some extent (check out my nerdy spreadsheet in the linked thread). :)

Oh awesome info, glad to know I'm not the only one thinking about this.

Also a couple of my 32oz midnights tend to run hot, has anyone tried a 30 watt bulb in them? (I think there is such a thing?)

(and I do have a dimmer, just curious about diff bulb wattages)

There is no such thing as a 30W bulb that would fit that. I, too, have often wished for a 30W bulb! There's a 30W medium-base flood bulb, but it would not fit the 32oz. bases. Many people just use dimmer (I refuse because of the extra cost and cord length). You could try something like this: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0000BYEF9/ref=oh_o04_s00_i00_details

I haven't tried mine yet, but I do have one.

It may cost a lil more, but another alternative is the X10 products.

Plus it has the benefit of a remote control. You can even program your computer to turn things on and off at specific times.

For me it was cool as I could dim the imperial to 15% power at bedtime (automatically).

Then turn it on 1/2 before I get up and it was at full flow when I walked out of the room.

For other uses, the X10 made it easy to put the lamps on a schedule which can help clear up some lamps that are clouded due to shipping.

you can also configure macros so one command can turn on all the lamps, (or turn them off).

After the initial cost of the home automation starter kit, the lamp modules range from $19.95 to $10 used on eBay.

Interesting you high tech Weebo Tech! :)

When it comes to the possibility of phasing out the incandescents (especially the R20-100W), I'm going into "Doomsday Prepper" mode. I've already bought sixteen 100watters (10,000 hours each) for the four Grandes that I have.  And I've bought four bulbs each for my smaller 25-40W lamps. I believe the smaller bulbs will take a little longer to phase out, but when I hear that it's in the works, I will buy many more to last a life time.

I hear that!! I'm covered. Got 10 bulbs for my colossus, and a gross each for 100w and 40w

Incandescents aren't going to be phased out yet.  The bill got shot down, that God.  I was worried not only for the Lava Lamps but for all of my other lighting as well.  I'm all for environmental conservation but those fluorescent bulbs are just awful.

Good to know.  Yes I want to save the environment as well, but NEED my LAVA LAMPS !!!

There's a thousand other ways to save the world, leave our bulbs alone. STOP BUSTIN' MY... BULBS!!!

Fact: the power saving bulbs have mercury in them, much more harmful and causing brain damage.
