Regarding finding a boiler... what exact terminology would be used to search eBay France? I get lamp=lampe, but what other terms should be searched? I'm told they show up fairly often on eBay France. Thanks for all info!

Hey Zazaab, try 'lampe bulles', that may work (bubbles i think)

Hi All!!  Yes, I LOVE french boilers. Even more so, now that I have a name to put to them!  and thanks Alpha for starting this group!  I have only ever actually SEEN them once. I was in the lighting dept of a department store when I was 13. (36 years ago) and thought I had stumbled across the most incredible "mad professors lab".....!!  They were all there, boilers, fountain boilers, DOUBLE fountain boilers, (my favourite, I can remember).... all around me, like a great exhibition! (it was the pre-christmas season)....Actually Alpha, you may know the department store....Bentalls in Kingston??

I don't remember them having many (if any) actual lava-lamps at all.  It was all the swirly love-meter-hand-boiler-type lamps.  They also had some VERY large and complex Hand-held boilers.  BOY those french glassblowers were good.

Jonas knows the entire story, but that was a VERY long email!!   You see I have been ACTIVELY searching for one of these lamps, (particularly the double-fountain) for that whole time!  At least I now know where to search and what terminology to use!!  ;) ....ONE day....Maybe??  Anyway, in the meantime I have 2 or 3 handboilers (one of them quite large.... very early taiwaniese and a good performer, the other two, contemporary and not so good)....Plus, I own two lava lamps.  However, I am determined to start collecting boiler-lamps and good-quality large hand-made french hand-boilers, as and IF they come along.

Jonas, thanks again for all your hard-work on the photo gallery and the AMAZING photo-shop list.....The gallery blew me away! I thought I was in Bentalls again back in 74!  Time-warp or what???

Yes, "lampe a bulles" (lamp of bubbles, essentially) is a good search term. Now, I still don't know what these were actually called when they were new. All I know is that 1974 was sometime in their production period, and that F. Vaudan of Paris and S. Vera of Cleremont-Ferrand made some of them.

I picked up another french boiler recently at an antiques fair in Surrey, England, I paid just £25 for it.  It's a smaller example of the one featured in the main picture above. Quite plain in compariosn to some of the amazing and varied designs. AC

Swore I'd never buy another after accidentally breaking the original one I had, but couldn't resist this one :)

the boiler below arrived via the post today, safe and sound thankfully....and with its original box!

All working, but the bulb looks 'interesting' (and I have no idea how to remove it!).

Before I start researching it can anyone advise?

Thanks
