Yep. Mathmos is still doing it the old fashioned way from what I understand. Each one poured by hand. Very clear lamps with great flow. When they make one wired for the US I'll be beating their door down to get at them.

Thanks LavaMeister :)

I'm sure Mathmos will come to your country at some point in the near future, I'm sure they would do very well. We just collect Mathmos lamps, I've got a bit of a thing for them going way back to my childhood (long time ago I can tell you) We only have three astrobabies out at any one time and one astro the big one in another room. We are looking to buy an old Crestworth astro and an old Crestworth lantern and more replacement bottles, so we can swap the bottles around :)

Hi Susan:

I thought I'd tool around your page for a while and look at your lamps as well. I'm quite fond of Mathmos lamps but they are difficult to find in the US for now. I have emailed them and they say they are working on marketing them here. Hopefully it won't be much longer. We don't have any lamp manufacturers here that seem to know what they are doing. Very cool glittery lamp in the middle of the pic! I saw one on youtube that had real gold flecks in the lava. When the lava moved, the gold would pop up on the surface of the lava like flower blossoms. That was shocking to see. LOL! Maybe I'll make one similar to that in the future. I have all I need to make my own now and am just waiting for a perfect day to get to work on it. I'll post pics when the lamp is ready!

It is strange, even on very close inspection we cannot see a coil in two of the lamps, or any mesh. They were purchased back in the very late 90's.

Just had a look under the green glitterball and it has a large black rubber ring in the bottom. The silver glitterball has a metal coil like the normal lamps. Very interesting :)

Rich, you learn something new everyday lol. I didn't know that about coils. We've got two ordinary astrobaby bottles that don't have coils in them. We've noticed that the modern normal astrobaby bottles have coils though. I think the newer baby bottles flow much better than my older ones ever did. Never seen the small rubber band you mention either lol, I will spend all my time looking for it now lol.

The glitterball is bright green, the colours on the photos are way out.

First lamp from the left is violet and red, 2nd clear and red, 3rd green glitterball, 4th blue and red (although very pale blue), 5th violet and orange.

I didn't know that the glitterballs flow from the edges, never noticed that, will put it on in a mo and see :)

Cheers, the glitterball is totally clear when it's running, ever so slightly cloudy when cold, which I believe is normal. I've only just bought that glitterball through ebay, we love it :)

Thanks :)

The glitter ball is my favourite lamp so far. Well, it's joint first with our silver glitter ball :)
