My First Lava Lamp was:: My first experience with a lava lamp was breaking a vintage lamp in a childhood friend's basement while horsing around. I have been indebted to the lavalamp deity ever since.

I'm not sure about the idea you have for a lava box but it surely sounds interesting. Maybe you should get some more concrete ideas about how it should work and post it to a forum to get some more input. There are so many knowledgable folks out there that know a lot more than I currently do. I'm just getting started on the road myself but I read a lot of the posts here and learn something new every day. Lots of luck on the idea you have. Lava lamps are just too much fun!
