Started Mar 12, 2010 0 Replies

For now, I have a reasonable supply of R39 30W reflector bulbs to keep my 3 (working) lava lamps happy, although they come at a premium and are hard to find.I tried to look for possible alternatives,…Continue

Substitutes for Perc?

Started this discussion. Last reply by TOMMYRAY CHANNELS Dec 19, 2013. 10 Replies

I am interested in learning to make my own ooze, and figured out that the only "right" way is to mix wax with perc in order to obtain a mixture that's denser than water. The other way would be to…Continue

MagicLamp replied to Jennifer's discussion Does salt solution bleach wax over time?
"An advice if you are trying to make "saltless" lamps: doing so causes MUCH MORE wax-wall stickyness, which will only go away if you just happen to dump the exact type and dose of anti-surfactant agents (pen ink seems to work, as does dish…"

MagicLamp replied to Steve Farber's discussion Where do I get a replacement spring and should I avoid salt
"Yeah, it should be avoided if possible. I make my own lava lamps (4 so far) and only in the latest one I learned how to make a "saltless" one, but I had to devise a method to control over the goo's density rather than the…"

"I posted about the salt-free method used for this lamp in the Scientists group too. It's not entirely mess-free, but the end results are well worth it. In theory, it should be more durable than my other lamps, but only time will tell!"

Yeah, it is just an oil burner with the tray for oil taken off. The flame is in direct contact. It heats up really fast. Like 15 minutes fast.

Yeah the candle lava lamp just worked great with just a tea light! The candle heats up the glass really quick but it doesn't seem to get any hotter than a lamp. It's an easy project! You outta try it!
