Only to get some backlight for photo, they are very tricky to capture in full glory. The green Grande was from a local newspaper small ad, and the red was from a department store boxing day half price sale two years ago, i carried it home for over a mile in deep snow and ice !
Sorry for the delay. Dawn, I don't really buy rain lamps these days. They tend to be dirty (they're dust magnets) and gunky (when people refill them with cooking oil). What I'd pay depends on the model, manufacturer and condition. There are always a fair few on eBay. If you see any there that you like, and want to know my personal opinion, drop me a note at kitdakat@aol.com and I'll give you a rundown of what's currently for sale.
