Once I had the socket installed, I screwed in a 40W small spotlight bulb. I decided to try this first rather than a standard appliance bulb. I am not sure which is better. I ran this for a few hours and it started up about as fast, maybe even faster by a bit than the blue globe. It didn't seem to overheat (great flow... didn't turn into small bubbles like the telstar with a 40W bulb will do when I don't have it on a dimmer). Anyway, this seems to do the trick and now I don't have to order bulbs from halfway across the country. The only cord at Lowes was 12 feet long...so I may have to crack this open again and shorten that a bit.
