I tried an incandescent and a halogen bulb and neither would light up either of two bases... Not sure what's happening - or not happening...

Like Claude already mentioned most UK Plugs contain a build-in fuse, when it is overpowered once this fuse has to be replaced. In the rest of Europe we don’t use these powerplugs with build-in fuses while we have the same voltage (220 V). First thing I do myself when I Buy a lamp from the UK is replace the Electric Power Plug for a version without a fuse. ( I live in the Netherlands)
Another reason might be the Bulb itself In Europe we use bulbs with a longer thread E27 and in the US is think you use E26?. These have a shorter thread and might not make contact in an European bulb-socket so the will not work.
Did you check the bulb? Is it an european bulb
In the worst case you might just re-wire the the lamp and than you can use the lamp without convertor.
You need for the Astro 220 Volt and a E14 40 Watt bulb.
if it is a screw-style socket, UNPLUG IT and take a tweezer or fine needle nose pliers and gently pull the center tab that makes contact with the bulb upwards just a tad.
This will eliminate the possibility of a bad socket
Will your other Astros work on that one particular power strip socket that you have the Astro plugged into?
have you swapped sockets with the NEO?
If so and it works, then you know the power is going to the unit ok,
Is that one of the UK plugs that contain a small fuse?
If so check it with magnifier glass or meter
try to Flinstone troubleshoot all possibilities of a bad connection before having to open it up and start checking for bad electrical connections
Yep, Keith, I actually tried it with a couple of converters... The NEOs are on a power strip plugged into one of them. It’s weird, I’ve tried different bulbs, bases, converters, globes - nothing seems to work.
If you're using a converter, is it on the right setting?
