Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

I have always had a passion for vintage 1960s Marantz stereo gear. Recently, I joined a small and up and coming audio forum called Vintage sound. It's a slow start up, but everyone there is super cool and relaxed without the heavy handed moderator crap of the bigger forums. We few members would be delighted to have ya, if you're so inclined! http://vintagesound.49.forumer.com/

Very cool I will have to check out that forum, nice to see other hobbies. I love the old school looking receivers with the meters and dials. My best was a pair of 24 inch ( yes 24 inch ) woofers made by JBL, my buddy worked at movie theater and ended up with 4 of these monsters during a remodel, my best guess was they were 1970-75 era made just for theaters. We made plywood boxes for all 4 and they became know as the "coffin speakers"....the boxes were 3x5 and weighed over 100lbs...very funny looking, I wish I had a pic.

Must have been a heck of a deal to drive em! Anyhow. If you do check out the site, just bear in mind we're just 3 weeks on line! Should shape up over the course of a year. I also find this site to be so awesomeand the people here are so friendly. Love it!
24" woofers wow!!! Wish I would have had those as a kid!.

My friend and I used to make speakers for my guitar. We made these huge ones using any drivers we would find in old stereos (or even the 8" drivers out of the school PA.. hee hee).

We would stack these home made speakers up and call it the wall of sound.

Funny how I was always blowing these speakers with my amps though. We were forever replacing the drivers. LOL!!
By the way the speakers sounded horrible, they were intended to be bolted to a building structure and never sounded right.
