Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

AurasGlow Candle-Powered Lava Lamp - Erin's Official Review!

Cost: $75 shipped (from Canada to the US)
Overall rating: 8/10

I received my bottle and holder after the Canadian price strike was over. The item came well-packaged with nice tags on the bottle boxes explaining all I needed to know about this lamp. The globe was packaged securely. The globe was cloudy out of the box, but this has continued to improve every day. Oddly, the lamp gets completely clear when running. Initially, there was some issue with lava sticking to the globe, but that mostly seems to have rectified itself as well. I really do believe the heat had something to do with the cloudy globe. The only remaining issue, and it's very slight, is that there are what looks like condensation bubbles on the INSIDE of the globe. They are also dissipating with time. As of today, the lamp is in pretty great shape!

The first thing I noticed right off the bat was that this was not wax. Or not wax like we're used to. Even though the lamp wasn't warmed up, the lava was moving. I have no idea what that stuff is, but it's definitely not 100% solid when cold. This has not presented any sort of problem however. Just worth mentioning.

The lamp runs only on a tealight which is awesome; low cost, no power use, easily portable. The tealight will burn for about 3-4 hours. Since all that is powering this lamp is a small candle, this lamp can in no way be used as any sort of light source. That being said, this is not a problem for me. Depending on what's behind the lamp, sometimes, the lava can't be seen very well. The tealight doesn't illuminate the lamp like light bulb does. Again, this is not a problem for me.

The holder is solid. No complaints here. It's a well-made piece and it's nice to see something truly unique holding the glass. It's very cool to see a new globe shape, too. The base and the shape of the glass globe compliment each other well.

I was probably more excited than anyone to order this lamp and I'm very happy to have it. Despite some of the little problems early on, I'm liking this lamp more and more each day. It's nice to see something different on the lava market. The "wax" is simply gorgeous and has a more transparent look to it than the regular lava we're used to. The flow is great - very much the kind of flow we all know and love from our lava lamps. You really do need to be careful that there's not any other wind movement when you use this lamp - even a fan blowing in the room can change the heat source and the way this lamp flows.

I've been in contact with the creator, Ravi, during the entire process and couldn't be more pleased with the customer service I've received. Ravi is very nice, honest and helpful. I'm actually very honored to have this lamp as it was handmade by him personally. Ravi is very interested in feedback and I look forward to seeing what else he creates.

First received:
Cloudy at first:

And TODAY! It's cleared up...no fogginess, no wax sticking, most droplets inside gone or very small:

I have tons more photos if anyone wants to see them. As of today, I'm a happy camper and I think this is a great lamp to have. :)

this, looks great. It got better so fast. Now i want one. I think i will wait till the price goes down though.

I do think the price is a little high, but they are made in small batches and made by hand. I don't think you'll see a price drop anytime soon.

wow it really did clear up well!  too bad all lava doesnt do this lol

Yes, it really does clear up. Ravi is working on some ideas to help with any bottles that arrive like mine did.

It does cloud back up after burning for about 3 hours, so I blow the candle out and then the next day, it's clear again. Also clear while running.

Once they get started and can afford machines. I think the price will drop because they can make them for cheap. Also I wanna see more of the photos.
I really don't think that is going to happen. And if it did, it wouldn't be for several years.

Erin why don't you think they will ever industrialize and expand?

Just a feeling I get from the inventor. I could be wrong though.

Also, based on their company philosophy, mass-production just doesn't seem to be their gig.

No disrespect to anyone, but this is a quality lamp, so the price in my opinion is TOTALLY worth it!!  I love mine, and have just ordered 2 more!!  I remember paying almost $100 for one of my first 32oz. USA made lava lamps back in the 90s. Clear as can be, and you could leave the thing running for ever, and it would just keep blobbing along with no problems.  I hope Ravi does keep the business on the smaller level, to ensure the quality.  We all know what happens when a quality product gets mass produced and outsourced to reduce costs...  (Even though I've had pretty good luck with China lamps)

What's the old saying?  "You get what you pay for"  :-)

My 2 cents has been added to the jar...

Yep - there! :D Thanks Wile!

I 100% agree! I'd like to see these made in small batches, not mass produced and eventually outsourced to China.
