{}[]{} BDOC Glitter Lamp ~ L{}{}king For Info ~ Can You Help? {}[]{}

Hi to all

I purchased a glitter lamp today from a local junk shop for £2 (from England) and I'm wandering If anybody out there can provide me with a bit more info/ history about the lamp - and also the company. I've already googled BDOC and discovered the link between Craven-Walker, the Lava Lamp, and Crestworth/Mathmos but there is nothing about this lamp...such as its model, when it was produced, and where it sits (or glitters) in the Lava evolutionary scale???

I first noticed the lamp just as I entered the shop - sitting on the top of a very dusty shelf - and instantly thought it had a bit of age to it...at first I thought it was copper as it was so dirty (in fact it cleaned up silver). Anyhow, I kept on going back to it to see if I could work it out and although I couldn't find any identifying names that I recognised...the look of the globe, the age of the plug, and the fact that it was made in England (nothing is today) persuaded me it had some age and quality to it - the price of £2 sealed the deal!!

Incidently, I first visited this site back in 2006 when I stumbled across a Mathmos Flock limited edition (no65 / 1000) at a car-boot and bought it for a pound or so. At that time didn't know what it was until you goo heads pointed me in the right direction - cheers!! Since then I have purchased quite a few lamps...though I prefer the earlier ones to be honest. Anyhow, more help with this lamp would be greatly appreciated. See links below.

Hi - No, other than the sticker and pierced holes around the edge, it has a clear black base.

I've had some other info come back from another site and they believe that the BDOC label could be a cheaper version, or a shield for Crestworth during the 70's and 80's when the lava lamp wasn't so popular - Crestworth being noted for its quality or course.

Makes sense I suppose...how does that sound to you? Is this commonly known?

Cool...thanks for the input. Finding this lamp today has definately expanded my knowledge a little bit more....nudists and all eh!


I'm only suprised that being a cheaper model there aren't many more of then about.

These are nice and came out in the 70's I think. they were produced by Mr Craven Walker himself but as an off-shoot of the Crestworth company (a more affordable version of the living jewel and telstars from the same era). My lava loving friend Paul is lucky enough to own one.
