You would think that but as I've always wondered do they still have lamps 13-14 years old new in the box some where or in a wear house?
I live in the Chicago burbs and check craigs list a couple of times a day.I have come across a few good deals but to me craigs list is like searching e-bay for lamps. You find something you like and you buy it.

I have now been searching garage sales, flee markets and local auctions on the weekends. With the economy the way it is and everyone trying to make a few extra bucks there are hundreds of sales every week.I find it much more exciting to walk into a garage sale and find a really nice lamp (maybe a vintage) sitting on a table waiting to be mine.
Very true. Craigs list is nearly useless here in Northern KY. Even Lexington & Louisville come up with slim pickings.
I rather prefer to spot them at a Garage sale, Flea Market....
You never know!
2 of my lamps were found that way! My yellow lava lite lamp was found at the Salvation Army for $6, and I found my red lava lite bottle at the town dump at the swap area for free!

I had a mini lamp with black lava I bought new online for my desk at the office, but it was cloudy and the lava flow wasn't very good (some lava stuck to the sides.) I ended up selling it on ebay, because I was disappointed in it. (and I needed the $!)

If only I could find a white Mathmos at the dump..... ;)
