China grande

Are new China grandes still complete crap? I've read several past discussions where people had returned many of them and how the purple/yellow in particular is garbage. Has there been any change in the quality? Is it a crapshoot or are they consistently bad quality? I'd like to get a decent flowing purple/yellow grande. Would it be best refill a grande globe with wax and liquid from smaller globes? Which size new globes would be best for use in refilling a grande? Perhaps this is a lost cause, trying to make something decent out of new China made lamps.

I'm not encouraged by what I've seen on ebay lately; selling prices are out of hand.
