chinese wax plus plain tap water

i have been tinkering about with a few lava lamps over the last couple of months or so.mainly original wax plus epsom salts distilled  water and washing up liquid.i have obtained them all on ebay,and they are all made in china !!! (not new) some good results,some very bad results.i have just completed my latest with just original wax and tap water,and it has been flowing very well,i am not sure what is going on here.any thoughts appreciated.

I ned to re do mine but cant seem to get it to flow any help would be helpfull
