Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

Hey Gang:  I was thinking about buying a Colossus.  Read what Pam had to say about the new ones.  I have delt with her before and I trust her judgement.

"Thank you for your inquiry. We do not have any of the Colossus lamps and will not be selling them.  I do not want to scare any one away from lava lamps, but we just feel the quality of the Lava lamps have been going down hill and lately they have been getting worse.  We never get any clear lamps any more, they all arrive to us super cloudy.  They just do not clear up either.  We just started to feel they are not the quality they use to be. Almost every lamp we had received had dented bases too.  All of the lamps we have left are older, most were made in China, but I think the older china's are better than what's coming out now a days.  That just our opinion, but that is why we have decided not to stock any of the newer lamps any more.
The globes we sell separately as parts were made in the USA as well as most of the retired lamps. There is just such a big difference between the USA and China lamps."

I emailed her looking for a clear red on a Granite base with a glass shelf (thanks to Bohdan!)

Anybody got any ideas?

Ciao ciao for now!

Don't hold back! Tell us how you really feel!

:-)
You are not a well individual!

I love it.

I think I am now NOT in the market for a Colossus! Unless someone has the exact model I want and it is first generation, I think I'm going to forget about it.

Ciao ciao for now.

I know I am going to get burned for saying this but I really don't care. Those of us in the USA that have access to and can enjoy USA made lamps, I would take those over any Mathmos lamp - any day. Mathmos lava is just a notch above Chinese wax. Maybe I am the ONLY one that see's it, but about the only difference between China made lava and Mathmos, is one flows.

Mathmos wax is translucent, kinda watery and there is not enough of it. Who wants just one or two blobs floating around? No thanks. I want LAVA in my bottle. I want it to OOZE goodness. The ONLY lamps that do that are USA made lava lamps. Period. The way the wax flows is just mind blowing. The thickness of the wax and the amount of it has NEVER been matched and never will be.

Everyone praises Mathmos. That's fine and dandy but how can a company charge a premium for a bottle that's got barely any wax in it? Try DOUBLING it and making BETTER wax. Again, the only difference between Mathmos and Chinese lamps - Mathmos flows. That's about it. Lava Light did it up right when they released their first lamp. They had THE lamp to own.

The only reason it's mentioned is they are the only company left making lamps that flow out of the box (not counting the hiccup of lamps that did not flow recently). If Lava Light was still making respectable lamps - Mathmos would be a joke.

/rant off .
Did you find a clear/red century? THE BEST lava lamp period. (If I had a Giant, or a early Colossus I might have a different opinion.) More lava and a better flow than the 32 oz lamps. ;)
Let the games begin!
Actually, thanks for reminding me. I totally forgot. I did find someone selling a yellow/red century. I didn't like the color at first but it grew on me. However, I really want a clear/red century.

The flow on them is amazing. It's what a lava lamp should be.
What's the point of a lava lamp if all it does is "snake"? I wouldn't call that "magic" lol :) Not sure how mesmerizing that can be. I personally think it's uninteresting and would drive me insane if that's all my lamp ever did.

This is probably a UK loves Mathmos and USA love Lava Light.
