Someone who quite obviously didn't have the faintest idea about Mathmos lamps sold this the other day.
I pushed the price over £80 but because the slider switch is missing, I was a bit wary of going further, so someone else got it.
Just in case eBay remove the details, the write up was as follows:
Aluminium chrome effect 1950's style rocket lamp 22" hi
A metal rocket lamp on 3 legs in a 1950's stlyle, made by Lunar in the 1990's, that is in a good condition with a few marks on the surface here and there. I think there is a middle section missing, that might be made of glass and sits on the light bulb. It all works and when the nose cone is put on it cuts the light out, so something must go between the top and bottom, it's 22" high & 12" across. Even without the middle bit it still looks good.....

I was in stitches with laughter over the description - but I didn't want to spread the word until the auction ended! Because up until about three or four hours before the auction ended, the price was still something like £16 - I'd got my fingers all crossed hoping it would stay that low....but no!
I guess £82 was a real bargain - I still think I should have bidded higher.....
