I have a nice 32oz clear/red lamp. It is my second one as the first was so cloudy I couldn't stand it. I turned that one into a glitter. But, saved the fluid and the wax for some reason. What happen if I added some or all of that wax to my other clear/red lamp? Can you have too much lava in a lamp?

I was also wondering if there is any way to power a lava lamp without a light. When I shut down a lamp with clear fluid and the lamp continues to run for a while it looks pretty cool running without light. But how could heat be applied without using a light bulb (or a source of light)?
Not sure on the lava amount, but I've seen threads on people making "lamps" with hot plates, as opposed to lights.
If you add too much lava it will not run. I ran some experiments when making goo kits lamps and adding too much wax would result in the wax just doming up and not flowing.
You can make a lamp without bulbs, I made this one a few years back..

You can also look into ceramic reptiles heaters, I believe there is one that simply screws into a Giant/Grande base without modification and is dimmable for heat control.
I wonder why more wax doesn't work? I can see it getting crowded, but just doming seems odd.
Anyway, running with just a heating element is kind of cool. Neat that you can control it so well.
