Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

I have a few older lamps made in the USA and they don't flow verry well they form a dome at the bottom and dronot do much else.

 I think they are getting too hot , can someone let me know what you think.

Yes, what age? And what bulb is in them?
they are fron the early 90's standard midnights with the standard 40 watt bulb. I will getpics later .

the lava is covering 100% of the coil and 1 lamp has the frosted bulb
