Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

I dragged my feet on buying a Gookit and finally got one, this is a video of my first Gookit lamp. Its a VERY easy process to refill a lamp. This is a 32oz globe and I colored the wax orange, it was opaque for about the first 30 minutes but turned solid after that. I added 12 ml of surfactant, about 1/4 of the "yellow" dye and used RO water...FLAWLESS. It runs great even better than I expected, after about 2 hours I dimmed the bulb down for a few hours and now I have had it running full blast another 2 hours when I took the video. If your thinking about getting one DO IT, Gookits kicks butt. More lamps to follow soon...

Wow, that's great! Does anyone know if you can buy gookits in the UK please? I've never heard for them before.
They will ship anywhere, their website is www.gookits.com and now they are on Ebay too http://shop.ebay.com/i.html?_nkw=magma+tower&_sacat=0&_odkw...

Thanks for the info lamphead :) Your lamps are looking good.
What I do like about goo kits is their ability to being kinda translucent for some colors, . It reminds me a clear/white astrobaby bought on ebay 3 years ago, with a very used wax, I mean with a lot of bubbles in it, that revived successfully after many cycles on and off and staying on dimmed at minimum thus making a dome in the bottom of the lamp. Then, when I had it running for 3 or 4 hours, the oil was kinda translucent too. With the liquid colored in blue, it reminds me kinda of champaign blobs. Color like.

But what I dislike about goo kits or lava brand is their ways of making bubbles that stay on top of the bottle 'till they cool off before going down. Mathmos receipe is always in motion : elongated blobs, bubbles. With a dimmer and properly adjusted, they are just real beauties.
Yeah what I dont like about the goo kits is the lack of streaming lava. It always seems to form round blobs. I am going to experiment with using a lot less surfactant next time and see how it goes.
My lamps have 30 watt bulbs in them and for me it seems when I dim the lamp it just makes blobs that look the same but are bigger. Overall though I am very pleased with the kit so dont get me wrong.
Whoo hoo! "Popped my gookit cherry" today too! :D

I cleaned out an old red/yellow globe on a black and gold Squiggle. Used the blue kit that Gus sent me a while back. Waiting anxiously for it to warm up... Pics to follow.
