Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

Hi all - I am planning to goo-kit a grande.  Any tips on getting the top off in a good manner to maybe make it re-usable?  I'm pretty good with the regular caps, but the grande is a different beast.

thanks!

perfect!  Thanks much!

Removal is easy, just go slow and steady.  Getting it back on however was a challenge for me!

Tonight is Goo Kit time then!  :)

Removing the lid is easy once you get started.  The hard part is closing it  back up. The lid will not bend so that it goes back on so you have to come up with a way to place the stopper and lid on without it popping off or tilting once the lamp gets heated. I made my own champagne bottle cages that I placed over the lids and then twisted the wire until it was tight enough to keep the lid from moving or popping off. If you know of an easier way. Let me know.  I tried a lot of ides that were posted both here  and online and none worked. How did your grande come out. I've done 4 and they all rock.

thanks!  I'm having a hard time getting it hot enough.  the normal bulb in the grande base is not hot enough.  I get a single column of lava that goes up about 3/4 up the bottle, but that's it.  :(

That seems like a great idea!!!  I need a cap for my 52 oz USA Globe.  I was using Izze twist off bottle caps for my 52 oz china globes, but I didn't realize that the USA globes have a really fat upper lip and the Izze lids don't work on those.  I guess since I didn't totally destroy the original cap, I will try the hose clamp trick, but I want to make sure I don't need to get inside the bottle for any reason.  Good luck with the capping system, let us know how it works.

@ Verax.

For the heat problem, try a bulb extender. You can find those at any hardware store and what that does is it'll raise the bulb closer to the blub and should help your flow problem.

For Qwik cap, that looks like a great alternate for recapping but i would make sure that the grande cap will fit properly over this qwik cap. The qwik cap looks a tad bulky and that metal gasket with screw may make the cap sit on there crooked. I'd be curious to see the final outcome of these caps. Let me know how it goes.

great suggestion, thanks!  I ended up finding out that I had plenty of heat, I just needed more surfactant.  It's flowing perfectly now.

I'll update this thread once I get the cap, and try it out.
