I haven't set foot in a Spencer's Gifts for ages.  It used to be a cool, cute store.  Wow, I wasn't prepared for what they've become.  I don't really go to the mall much as it is, but wow.  I just wanted to see some lava in their natural retail environment and we were at the mall today with no real plan to do anything specific so I couldn't help myself.  Most other stores were nearly empty so I thought it would a quick in and out.  Of course Spencer's was packed with innumerable 13 year olds snickering at penis shaped jello pans and whoopie cushions so I wade through the smell of pimple cream and overly-heavy scented lip gloss to get to the back of this jam packed store to find the goo section.  They had a meager selection but everything was priced at $26.99 which was pretty reasonable for some of them but I kind of lost my interest at this point feeling rather self conscious being at least three times as old as every customer in the store and more than twice as old as any employee.

The selection of plasma was dismal, I was kind of holding out hope I might find something unique in that area but my hopes were dashed.  Prices were reasonable though for what they did have.  But I just couldn't wait to vacate the store but at least I now know what an NBA player feels like out in public among normal sized people.  And if this store is any indication, Bob Marley isn't a real popular guy in this area as they had tons of BM lamps.  Surprised they weren't marked down.

But Spencer's:  ick.  I'll have to wear my dark glasses if I ever plan to go back and buy anything.  ;)

Just found this thread!!  I'm a little late, but a newbie......I also wanted to comment on their "gothic" stuff...I don't ever remember them being dark like that.  I figured that was the whole reason for the Hot Topic store a few doors down the road.  Also, the green paraphanalia (sp?) lol, god I should know how to spell that from what day i'm from, lol!!  They have an awful lot of marijuana leaf stuff also.  I'm not a prude either, but there are a lot of impressionable young kids (mall rats) lol, that go in to that store..

Lol! Yes, Carol, the mall rats today see WAY more than I did when I was a little mall rat. I remember how we would go into Spencer's just to check out the dirty joke isle. They had the tiny condoms "For the Little Prick in Your Life" that were actually finger cots. I used those later in life when I was a custom photographic printer. However, no vibrators or dildos... lol! Today...well...they can learn more in a visit to Spencer's than I even knew about at age 10.

Just got back from the Spencer's trip.  An hour and a half drive.  Did Taco Bell since that is the only chance I get to "run for the border".  They took our Wendy's and Taco Bell away for a ton of those Asian joints that set the food on fire while you are trying to eat.  Not a big fan.....oh, lost topic, lol.....anyway, went in, focused on the lamps.  Replaced my green and purple 52 oz neons that I overheated, fried, and really sent to an early grave (not intentionally).  Wow, I didn't realize how much damage the sun can do in a short 8 months.  Wonder what my skin is like frying when i'm laying on that raft in my pool?  I'll have to send you guys the old and the new lamps together.  OMG!!!  I told my son because his room gets flooded with son to throw a towel over his lamp during the day since it won't be in use.  I'm gonna save up for a glitter refill on my 52 oz.  For now i'm giving it a home on my bedroom nighttable.  I figure if the dog knocks it over who cares?  it's already ruined.  I wouldn't dare display this thing anywhere near my clear, vintage and new neons.  God, the globes are just getting worse and worse guys!!!  I literally had the guy open up 10 boxes and there is like this stuff all over the globe that looks like glue but doesn't come off.  I'm kind of thinking it's on the inside.  It does seem to disappear once the lamp warms up.  Condensation maybe on the inside of the globe??  Anyway, the Spencer's guy tells me it's from the Styrofoam packing and it comes right off.  and how he is rubbing it off now.  um, yea, no it doesn't come off and when I got home and lit my purple I wanted to head straight back up to that store and complaint, but it's my own fault for knowing what i'm getting into.  I hope the flow is spectacular cause the globe is crap.  lol!!  Well the 2nd and the 3rd I get my Enchantress and my blue swirl in the mail.  I'll post pics. 

 

P.S.  My Spencer's said that they are EXPANDING their GOO section because lava lamps are becoming popular again.  Um when were they not???

Lava lamps have been so crappy for the last 10 years or so that people quit buying them.  Now with improved quality and interesting graphics people are willing to give them another try.  LL still has a long way to go but at least now (in my experience) the lamps are decent.  Too bad they're not great!

I'm so pissed I could spit!!!  Globe is all friggen scratched up......back up to Spencer's tomorrow...maybe, I don't know because hubbie has to work nite shift tomorrow.  Unless he takes me up early in the am.  They open at 10 I think.  I'm making them not only open the boxes, but he is plugging everyone in.  He asked me if I wanted him to plug it in.  I should have said yes but I figured i'd pick up on imperfections in the globe when it was out.  He told me that stuff was rubbing off.  NOT!!!

P.S.  Taco Bell will probably be working on me for the ride up tomorrow am!!!  Haaa, especially after my moring coffee.....I better lay back a little bit until.....well u know!!!
