Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

I was informed that you are not to take the cap off of your lamps as they are sealed air tight, and letting air get in is not good for the lamp or the lava. I also heard that adding stuff to the mixture is also not right b/c it is a special formula that is put into the globes....give me some feedback if you all can. :) Thanks!

When capped, they are air tight and leak proof. They have air in them so letting air in won't do anything. That's normal. If your lamp is under warranty, removing the cap will void it. If your lamp is older, removing the cap may reduce it's value if you don't do it right.

The only reason you need to remove the cap is if there is something wrong and you need to fix it by cleaning the coil, replacing the coil, filter the fluid because it's cloudy, the flow is wrong and you want to adjust it or the like. For the most part, you should not need to remove the cap.
How are the UK lamps different that US lamps? I would think only the electrical plug would be different. Thanks for the comments!
