Update on the new bulb Susan sent: My yellow/red Century is flowing, but not that quickly and most wax is still at the top, not stuck, but doing exactly as Brad said his was. It just hangs there till another blob comes up from the bottom and knocks one in the top down. But I also have another problem. My lamp has completely clouded up. So, the wax is melting, is no longer sticking, is a teeny bit faster, but the flow is still not good, and I don't like the clouding up at all. I'll give it some more time, and see what happens.
great to hear that you're not having issues with your century.
with the new R16 bulbs, mine are still flowing much better, but there's still a large cap of wax at the top that stays there for some reason. it's pretty cool when it drips back to the bottom, but in the meantime it looks like the lamp is overheating when it's not.

Does any one have dimensions on the R16 bulb Lava Lite is supplying? I bought a couple of Westinghouse ones at Menard's and they won't work. The bulb is too high and the globe won't sit in the base. Which makes me wonder if socket height varies across the Century bases. I have had pretty decent flow on a 40 watt frosted appliance bulb; bottom line, no issues like you report. If socket height does vary that would sure explain a lot.
I received my grande replacement base, cap, and 100w bulb for my green neon today from Susan. Perfect condition. I just wanted to let everyone know.
Both the pink and green neon lamps look GREAT together. What beautiful crystal clear globes! Decided it was time to turn them on again! Damn, I love these lamps.
Great news that your replacement base, cap and bulb came safely and in perfect condition, Kirk!
You are right, those two Grandes together are WONDERFUL. I can hardly bear to turn them off for a rest! I love em too!
This is a far cry from watching my 32 and 52 oz. lamps!!! I never realized how lovely the flow is in a large lamp. I'm hooked!

here's a quick update of my centuries with the R16 bulb. they seem to be getting better with use. the flow is much more stretchy now. in the video, they've been on for over 24 hours.
Received the new bulb yesterday. It definitely heats up faster. Most of the lava is now at the top. I turned it down a bit and it was better, but the flow is still not great.
That black stuff would be concerning to me, too. Where would it even come from? Have you contacted Lava Lite about it?
I don't understand where that black stuff is coming from either. It wasn't there at first, so how could it just appear? Rodrigo, Erin's right, you need to call LL. Especially after you said it was getting worse.
