I picked up a Lava Giant recently with clear liquid and pink lava (black base and top). As far as I can tell, the Lava Giants were never produced in this color combo.
I'm wondering if it could be a custom not listed in a "normal" catalog?
I'm also wondering if it started out life with red lava that has turned pink over time, or perhaps was a pink/pink at one time and the liquid has turned clear (btw, the liquid is crystal clear with no hint of pink in it).
Any thoughts?
It has the black plastic plug with black heat-shrink around the metal zip tie/fastener.
Maybe it's a pre-1999 model? I wonder when the LW Giants first came on the market?
Faded from what do you think?
The only thing that looks close in the 1999 LW Giant listings is a royal red lava with purple liquid model...
I wonder if the royal red was more "pink" then the regular red produced back then?
That's a gorgeous looking lamp!! even if it is a faded red turned pink i'd still love it....the Lava grandes are fantastic lamps. I have two at home. One is Red/purple and the other is white/purple.They both came from Argos here in the UK but when i decided to buy another white/puple they had all gone.
Apparently they were only produced for a limited time (so i heard) which is a shame because it's lovely. My boyfriend often comments on 'what a big Lava lamp you have'...hehe!
Thanks creambuns (your name makes me hungry, and I'm not sure why...lol).
Actually, my avatar photo is showing my other LW Giant which is a red/clear. The effects of my digital camera and lighting made the red lava appear "bubblegum" pink in the photo.
I just read somewhere in here that LW made a pink/pink Giant in the mid to early 90's?
Thanks for that link Spence541...!
My lamp looks exactly like that. Too bad I paid $45 more for mine then she did for hers...lol.
I wonder if the LW Giant "Bert" has started out life as a pink/pink (as Galaxy 9 mentioned in that discussion link) and faded to pink/clear?
On the other hand, I've noticed that the fluorescent liquids in some LW lamps don't seem to totally clear up with age and/or sun exposure as the non-fluorescent liquid colors do. I have a fluorescent pink/pink 52 oz LW globe that I've left outside in the baking sun since early May to "bleach". As of today, there is still a hint of pink in the liquid color. Amazing!
Good info Bohdan..Thanks.
Perhaps I have a "Spencers' Special" then...
So far, everyone has mentioned things about pink/pink Giants. I guess I can infer from those comments that no pink/clear Giants were ever produced by LW?
