Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

Hi all,

I'm working on a project where I'm seeking to replace the globe at the bottom of the lamp with a series of LED lights - for the ultimate purpose of being able to control these LED with a software interface. (The idea is to have the lamp's color change in accordance with a song)

Admittedly I don't have much existing knowledge of Lava lamps beyond what I've managed to gather surfing through your site, and my main concern is whether or not I'll be able to mimick the heating element of the globe with LEDs.

Does anyone have any suggestions or advice?

Thanks!

I don't have any experience of this but I can tell you that LED's alone will not produce the required heat to make the lava flow - you will need a heating element for that.

Check out this thread where a similar project was undertaken http://oozinggoo.ning.com/forum/topics/smart-century
