I want to conduct an experiment.
Let's say a 52oz bottle normally would take about 15-18ml of surf. How much concentrated dawn clear dish soap would that equal? Should I try 5 or so ml or would sticking to the glass stick occur?
For some reason am think you would require less dish soap as opposed to surf as the surf I had from magma tower seemed quick thin compared to dish soap.

I wonder how this would work
https://www.walmart.com/ip/Equate-Clear-Liquid-Hand-Soap-Refill-56-...
it looks liek the same ingredients except it has a few more'
Should be ok
I'll photograph the bottle of mine sometime tomorrow an send it to you
one on left has fewer ingredients (Not much)
ard to say on the amount
I coat the bottle with a gob, add some distilled water (1/2cup), shake it, dump it, add a gob, fill it with distilled water 75%, run it and tweak accordingly
I never measured it
If you add too much you will have balls of goo.
So I tried around 15ml of the stuff on the right and it just didn't work, it domed a bit but never anything more. I'm gonna empty the lamp, clean the interior good with wax cold and then try tomorrow similar amount of the softsoap
sure you got it hot enough>?

It's been running for 3 and 1/2 hours and a lava was definitely melted maybe I will put it on a timer tomorrow so when I get home I can see if it works if not I'll redo
the reason it is not floating is probably not the amount of surf.
Its the buoyancy (specific gravity) of the fluid
Add some filtered magnesium sulfate or straight Propylene glycol solution
I find that comment interesting as this is a 2011 lava lamp that I scored for 10 on letgo. All my newer lamps just require lava, water and surf. This could be slightly different lava.
I am going to try this. Tomorrow I am going to redo with fresh distilled water, the other soap. If after 4 to 5 hours it just domes, I am going to slowly add some pickling salt as I don't have those other chemicals and def not buying them for a cheapo letgo lamp.
I wanted to experiement with this lamp to see if mccormiks coloring works with the distilled water and lava as I advised when used with lava lamp liquid, my lamps crapped out and didn't work right after the coloring was added. Same for a friend.
If thsi is the older lamp, then yes, you need a floatation /specific gravity adjuster
They DO NOT work on distilled water alone
Pickling salt might leach the color

Epson salt (Magnesium sulfate) is 1.99 a 1 lb bag
heat water in a pan, add Epson salt, stir until dissolved, pour thru a coffee filter placed in a funnel to filter into a clean container
use that as our adjustment fluid
I never had a problem with food coloring other than fading over time
